I used to run a generic (Judas Priest front man) bike carrier on the rear of my '94 Vauxhall/SAAB 900 with rear spoiler/coffee table. The bike rack sat on the rear bumper and rear window with foam pads.
Just had to remember to pull the rear wash/wipe fuse to avoid mangling the rear wiper.
