i drive this from my wheelchair and it can be fine for months but then it just cuts out, sometimes it will restart but presently after breaking down whilst at Asda it is stuck outside my house after being transported via a wagon back home. i left it 2days went outside and it started fine, turned it off and got my stuff to go xmas shopping turn bed it on put it in gear and it cut out, tried to turn it on it would not even turn over.
could it be my immobiliser? but i thought it would not even start and would not cut out whilst driving?
now and again i start it and the rev counter does not work, turn off and start it again, then it works?
i drive with hand-controls and this is serious if it cut out on the motorway with me driving.
please help, had it to chrysler at preston last year and they could not find anything wrong with it!

my helper Disconected battery overnight, connected up this morning it run for a couple of minutes then it just cut out it is like someone switches it off!
recently whilst driving ABS, Oil, Service soon, Alarm have lit up then they just go out, i have had this from new and had it converted, is this a common problem?

If Merlin or anyone can help, i will happily pay them to sort it?

Hi
This is an odd one and will be easy if I could look at it but first thing to try would be to swap the ASD (auto shut down) relay with the air con relay in the fuse box next to the battery and retry.
|
hi,
unfortunately i am disabled due to breaking my neck, so can even lift the bonnet! how far off southport are you? err, my number is 07939 573956, i am going to get my carer to go and bang it on the top of the dash board??
|
Hi
Can you get your carer to just swap this relay? I am in exeter so not too easy to pop over. Dealer would probably be the best bet. Can you turn the ignition on and off 3 times ending with on and see if any codes come up in the mileage display. if not codes it should say done.

hi,
i have just been out to it:
1st attempt....nothing tried for a half a sec and then nothing.
took key out..needle on speedo twitched...
banged it on top of dashboard...
2nd attempt...started but cut out after 3secs...
banged again..
3rd attempt..running for approx 2o secs then i turned it off!
carer cant swap relay and i dont have a key barrel...just a pot i drop the key in!
i am going try it again now? lets pray!

my dad is coming over, how can you tell which fuse is the ASD and the air con?
|
Hi
Not the fuse the relay and it will tell you on the cover. I suspect it could be the relay at fault (over heating and shuting off or poor contacts) so just want to rule it out.
|
Hi, just been out to it and it started got up to temp round for about 5mins no problem, then i turned it off. did this 3 times with no problem. this leads me to that banging the top of the dash has solved it, could it be this? how do you get the top off the dash and were are the wires situated?
thanks

Hi Paul
Good for you, I have had the dash fault give none start issues but not cutting out when driving. A dash fault could give you your rev counter / ABS and oil light faults. Possible you have 2 faults, easy way to tell is to remove the A pillar trims down each side of the windscreen. Then the forward part of the top of the dash will come up and you will be able to get to the plug at the back of the dash and then just wiggle the plug. If it is the common issue with the soldered joints broken away (as in the immobiliser post) the fault will come and go as you wiggle it. I know it?s not something you can do but if you know anyone that can.

Hi merlin
it starting now no problem, but i need to know why it cuts out because if it was to cut out whilst driving on the motorway with me driving with my controls( i have 2 slides-right hand side push forward it steers to the left-pull back steers to the right, left hand side psh forward it brakes-pull b for accel,) how can i search 4 fault now its running ok? change the relay< get the relay tested? if the £ wasnt so crap at the moment i would import a left hooker and get controls for me to drive on the right!
|
Hi
Intermittent faults are a pain. All I can suggest is wiggle the plug on the dash to see if it will play up, if you can get someone to do it or even bag the top of the dash again to see if it will cut out or at least the rev counter to stop and warning lights to come on. Then you will know you have a suspected dash fault and will probably need the soldered joints repaired or the circuit board replaced.
