1998 1.6 Cam Belt - oilslick
I bought a 2nd hand Renault Megane 2 months ago and it had a service history that included a replacement cam belt in Oct 2007. The car has been making a squealing noise when I start it up in the morning and yesterday felt as though I was losing power which I thought was the cam belt. Should the garage that fitted the cam bel last year fix this problem as the car has done less than 13k miles with thre new belt fitted?

Squealing is more likely to be one of the AUX belts - i.e. the Alternator belt.

Common during winter when electrical loads are high and atmosphere damp!

Have you checked the battery condition? If its failing (i.e. < 12.5v) then the alternator has its work cut out, needs more energy to turn it - hence the squealing when the belt slips.

Does it constantly squeal or just for a bit after starting? Could be a belt roller/tension I suppose?
