Volkswagen - Defective Rear Manual Windows

Defective Rear Manual Windows - jeck
I have discovered that both rear windows (manually operated) in my golf MK V are not operating. There is no movement in handle. Seems odd that both give up at the same time. Anyone any thoughts? Would repair be a suitable DIY?

Had this on a MK5 too. As they dont get used they tend to become VERY stiff for some reason. I just gave it some welly and after a 'crack' they work fine. Had the same issue on an old Rover 214 too
