I presume nobody tested it with Firefox. Cos it don't work! Stuff all over the place, boxes on top of each other, ...
Fine with Explorer. Fine even with Chrome, surprisingly, given its small number of users.
|
Looks okay to me GM- Firefox 3.0.4 on XP SP2.

Edit: what IS a pain (and has been all day) is the amount of time taken to load
adverts. Never seen it take a minute to load a page before.

If it helps anyone to sort out the advert issue, the offending sources would seem to be:
adserver.adtech.de:http TIME_WAIT
adserver.adtech.de:http TIME_WAIT
adserver.adtech.de:http CLOSING
adserver.adtech.de:http CLOSE_WAIT
which all sit at WAIT for a considerably long time.

Fine with Safari, so far. Doesn't load consistently with Firefox 3.0.4: usually unsuccessful. OSX 10.4.11.

I use bog standard vista and IE7 and have found the site very slow this afternoon but slightly better now (7.45). Still slow though.

Looks OK with Opera 9.62. Takes for ever to load. Clicking on links within the site now also takes for ever to load. Sometimes refuses to load at all.

Not loading pages initially. Have to keep trying and eventually will load.
When trying to load status says - Completed request to adserver.adtech.de - and it's hogging CPU at 50%.
Opera - latest version.
Windows XP.

Lots of adserver.adtech.de 'pings'. Pages taking 10-15 seconds to load.
Firefox 3.0.4
XP with latest SP.
This was the case before the revised look.

No problems here on FF 3.0.4 - XP SP3

Absolutely, completely hopeless for me (IE6, XP Professional). Clogs up CPU and virtual memory (first time in years) and makes me feel I have a worm on board. Perhaps I do, as someone is clearly trying to reach parts I don't want them to get at - but only with this site.
Pity, as I have only been a member for a short while but have looked at the site for much longer and have enjoyed the interesting posts of all sorts. I suppose I will try again in a week or so, just in case, but otherwise thanks everyone and, to stunorthants26, the very best of luck with whatever you decide and I hope the Picanto finds a good home.

The site admin people are aware of the problem and are looking in to this.

Ah!
That explains the 'treacle mode'.
I think I'll pink fluffy dice off until it's sorted.

Looks quite messy here on Vista 32-bit, Firefox 3.04,. 1680 x 1050.
|
Now this:
Connection Interrupted
The document contains no data
The network link was interrupted while negotiating a connection. Please try again.
Tried it with IE - failure to connect errors. I suspect too many flash ads.
I'll try again tomorrow.

Some problems seem to be affecting some users - site support are fully aware.

Very slow to load.
Firefox 3.0.4 Vista.
|
|
Safari, Flock and Camino all fine using a Mac. Firefox sometimes doesn't like Java, which I believe this site uses.
|
Which version of camino are you using? I'm using 1.5.5 on tiger and the layout is bombed. The tabs (Used car deals new car deals etc) are overwriting the text on the forum and the whole thing is shifted to the right by the width of the tabs.
|
|
Camino 1.6.5. at the moment, but it did work on the older version. I usually use Safari, but have all three loaded.

NC, that's probably the simplest equation you've ever posted - and I'm still flumoxed...

Think by x2 he means him as well... and many others.

Works on my firefox though.
|
Very slow to load, sometimes causes Opera to freeze.
BTW Opera V10 released today.
|
My computer is close to steam driven ( 9 years old ) and while I was having a bit of trouble yesterday and earlier today, tonight it is almost back to normal, only 4 secs to open pages.
My mums laptop, totally up to date, wont open the site at all still though.
I found if I open my favorites menu, it seems to open quicker when its got stuck, goodness knows why, im no techie!

LOL, I'm a PC and I've been made into a stereotype....

>>even with only 2Mb broadband.
There's no 'only' about 2Mb - try living where I am, 500Kb in the evenings is good.
Have had misplaced/missing boxes but the same page will then reload OK - seems OK at the moment (Vista, Firefox 3.0.4). Not hogging CPU or memory noticeably.

IE7
Yesterday responses were terrible.
Now they are fantastic. The fastest I have EVER had responses.

Looks okay to me this morning, compared to last night- pages load quickly. Thanks Mods and Devs for whatever you did.

firefox 304 on ubuntu 8.10 - layout broken. Boxes on top of each other and raw code visible
{_pane_latest_panel2} ?
thats interesting - sometimes that is code and sometimes it gets processes.
The online validator at w3.org throws out 199 errors.

I believe some of the adverts are currently turned off whilst it is investigated. At some point they will be back.
Yes it has speeded up since yesterday.
|
Could not get on at all last night but working fine this morning, Opera 9.62 on Ubuntu 8.10
Thank's, Steve.

Mine is Firefox 2.0 (both Windoze & Linux) - may be version 3.0 will be ok.

When I try and get the backroom index I get a picture of the MK3 golf road test and toyota breakdown as detailed above. I don't get any of the index at all. Also get this at the top of any thread I can access (only off front page for recent threads).
I run Firefox and XP.

It's quick enough, but quite broken - adverts behind things (HJ's Back Room log out, my settings, new acct., etc.), no quick selection of discussion, technical, for sale, ?? - that sort of thing. There's "{_pane_latest_panel1} {_pane_latest_panel2}" and other odds and ends. Horrendously slow yesterday (1Gbps), all sorts of stuff coming down the wire.
Too hard to use at the moment.
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-GB; rv:1.9.0.4) Gecko/2008102920 Firefox/3.0.4

How the heck did *that* happen? My psot looks as if it contains images, & some of the text's missing.
System restore to the day before yesterday, hm?

Viewing on a brand new i-Mac and latest version of Firefox. Site was impossible last night, much better now.

Looks OK on IE6 & FF2 now, same issues as others yesterday. Main body text still offset to the right on Google chrome. All on the same PC with XP Pro.
|
|
Windows XP and Firefox 3.0.4: all looks fine to me, although there have been occasional images in replies on this thread.

Windows XP and Firefox 3.0.4: Same here. FT's post at 11:20 for example has a couple of images which appear to block out some of the text.
|
Windows XP and IE7. Unable to load site fully most of yesterday pm but running ok faster than ever today.
|
Too late to edit above. Windows XP and IE7.
Loads fine but now very slow to respond to 'return' or switch between 'Discussion' and 'Technical'
Now at least 20 seconds to go from screen to screen.

XP and Firefox, works at normal speed but looks a bit unfamiliar.
An aberration has just appeared though, in the form of a couple of boxes from the top of the page appearing at random higher up in this thread. Perhaps it's because everyone is complaining.
|
|
Painfully slow to load any page, often times out. Running XP Pro with IE7 on a fairly fast Vaio.
|
>Couple of boxes from the top of the page appearing at random higher up in this thread.
yes they are (W98 and IE6). Otherwise seems fine and quick.

It's people quoting code.
I did it, and it had the same effect (ie inserted ads) until I inserted a couple of spaces.
|
|
Seems OK perhaps quicker than before. Linux (CentOS 5) Firefox 3.0.4
...sorry- just spotted boxes from top of page appearing in posts, as reported by others.
|
The pics in the posts - or the ones in my post anyway - are becuse I quoted a bit of web code which I was seeing on the page I was lookng at. A glitch whaich has been fixed with the result that the bits of web page are now showing in my post as well.
The overlapping boxes issue has got better over the day as well.
|
Still crepe. Overlapping boxes etc.
Come on come on come on: this is a site of national importance!
|
Oh
ignore me
it's all right now
sorry
.
By and large, anyway, though there are still the "
{_pane _latest_panel1}
{_pane _latest_panel2}
"
bits where the ads ought to be.
But I can live without the ads.

I'm currently experiencing boxes and pictures all over the shop.
I am running Vista - any ideas or is the web site that needs fixing ?
As you say guys this is of national importance - where else can I get to speak to so many intelligent people ?
|
{_pane _latest_panel1}
{_pane _latest_panel2}
"
I saw them at the top of the page, but only once. Speeds have been normal.
|
Thanks for all the feedback.
The overlapping boxes are because the old stylesheet has been cached by your browser. A reload (refresh) fixes it. I'll try to remember to put some anti-cache stuff in there next time.
The other curly bracket stuff is just a mistake.
Oh - and I nearly forgot to say the the horrible browsing experience esp in IE is down to a rogue advert from the ad company.

For completeness Stephen, the message list would not load at the office today (IE6 and XP Professional) - a message then appeared to the effect that "script on page is causing a performance problem with IE which might cause IE to stop responding - continue or cancel the use of scripts on the page". I assume this was your rogue advert.

01:00 this morning - fantastic fast responses

All OK this evening with fast responses.
