Thanks
I was going to Liverpool this afternoon, and you have saved me several wasted hours stuck in traffic.
|
Pleased it worked...and you've had a pretty ropy week already!

Yeah, it's pretty bad out there.... lorry went through the central reservation, hit a car coming the other way... driver of the car is dead. Should re-oppend for around 5:30pm. Avoid the area at all costs.
|
Had to go to Manchester today and return. Used East Lancs -chaos. I fully understand that one person died but the decision taken a few years back to start treating all such accidents as crime scenes is bringing this country to a gridlock situation. Nearly 6pm and still closed. If this actually prevented any more fatal accidents from occurring then I would be right behind it but the level of M way deaths does not appear to have dropped since this decision.

Look me over an hour to get back from Manchester to my house (less than 4.5 miles on the bus). One the way back I soon found why, there had been two seperate accidents and both looked like they had gone out control due to ice.
The m62 has hit me as it seems the person driving what looks like a 206 was killed for doing nothing wrong at all, I don't know if the lorry driver was at fault but he did go out of control but we can't really speculate. Eitherway a very sad day for the persons family and a reminder we should leave our cars at home unless we really need to use them tomorrow as it will get worse in the north west tomrrow and tonight before getting better on Friday.
Walked back from my job tonight (about 1 mile) and nearly slipped twice on black ice and both times it was crossing a road.

Information on acident. Please remove if this violates the boards rules.

I remember when our M Ways and such roads didn't have crash barriers along them . Thye were added to stop such cross over accidents after a spate of deaths. This was followed by the sealing up of the barriers occasional breaks after an outbreak of motorists using them to change direction.

It reminds me of that awful Utube video of a truck coming through the centre barrier, somewhere on the continent. Perhaps time for central barriers to be improved? 6ft tall interlocked reinforced concrete would surely stop these crossover accidents?
What do our Motorway Police members think?
|
I'm sorry but Motorway Police are not engineers . Lets stop treating such members as the fountain of all knowledge.
I , as joe public , don't understand why the barriers which were once sufficient to stop most of these cross over accidents are now no longer as effective . Is it because they have weakened over the years or is it because the changes in lorry sizes and the weights they are allowed to carry have altered ?
Could an engineer answer these points.
|
Everythings got bigger and heavier... I'm not sure, but aren't the two best things to add to a motorway centre barriers and lights?
Having said that you'll never manage to allow for tailgating, stupid maneuvers (sp!) and driving too fast for the conditions which probably account for the vast majority of motorway accidents...
Not a good night all round for our motorways, the local radio in the Midlands when I got home reported that the M5 was blocked in Worcestershire and the M42 junc 1 to the M5, both due to acciedents and the M6 near Brum had lost one lane, again due to an accident...
Why, oh why can't people just slow down in these sorts of conditions rather than driving like complete morons??

BBC North News are reporting that a 19 year old girl has been arrested in connection with todays M62 lorry accident.
|
I think some earlier information was incorrect.
From the looks of it the driver of the silver car (19 year old female?) has collided with a DHL truck on the same side of the M62. The car did mount the central reservation and the lorry did overturn. No vehicle went through the central reservation.
That seems to be fact. Lets not speculate on how it happened etc. That is for the traffic police dealing with it. And not for "backroom investigators".
M62 now fully re-opened at last.

Still, thats eight hours to remove injured, take details of the scene and recover two vehicles.
Flail me if you wish but that isn't good enough when you consider the sheer gridlock that this created around one of the North Wests major cities.
|
Let us not criticise why it took 8 hours please. The police needed to collect the evidence and if it took all day then blame the person causing the accident. The police had a job to do.
And please let us not forget someone died in the accident. So evidence crucial - someone may or may not go to prison for this for example. We do not know what actually happened.
|
And Mr X, if the offer to flail you stands then please remember what weapon the backroomers would use:

Perhaps there is nothing more to discuss here?

I was hoping to hear after the recent M40 biker murder convictions whether any useful evidence had been gathered during the 24hrs+ the motorway was closed.
