Help !!
I have just purchased a new car with a black metallic finish.
Everytime I wash and leather it ( no matter how carefully ) I find new scratch - some quite deep. Is this a normal problem with black metallic ?

A small tip for you, if you are struggling to remove dried on bird c*** with a sponge DO NOT be tempted to use your fingernails, I did and it left noticable scratch marks on the laquer covering the paint. The odd scratch is unavoidable I'm afraid, I assume you are washing by hand, which is safer for your paintwork than using a car wash (only for the very lazy). Jet washes are ok but they never seem to give you enough time to do a proper job unless you have a small car.

Plenty of good quality wax usually will get many small scratches out. As its metallic, be careful if using any cutting pastes. There is a T-cut metallic which might be considered as a last resort, they also offer a "black" coloured one but in my experience the coloured ones don't do a great deal as its usually only the lacquer coat that's scratched. I think you need to be patient and regularly build up layers of wax, wash the car with a wax shampoo and see if its possible to polish them out.
As for birds droppings, always wash them off the paintwork as soon as possible, even if it means just using ordinary water.

I have an Oxford Blue Rover 600, the first really dark coloured car I have owned. At first, my blood pressure went up every time I washed it because I discovered a new scratch. However, they all disappear with a coat of Autoglym Super Resin Polish. I reckon I need to polish about every 4-8 weeks as I wash the car at intervals ranging from 3 days to 2 weeks.
I'd still like to have words with the idiot who rested his suitcases on the boot in the Gatwick car park, and scratched the paint off down to the white under!

My last car was black metallic. The paintwork was fine, but basically not particularly 'shiny'. After a year or so of carwashes and hand washes with a wash/wax it looked better. Maybe wax is the answer.

me too - I've a dark green metallic Laguna - the paint must be less than 0.00000000000000000001 microns thick! is this Renault cost cutting ? After the initial paranoia I decided the best option was not to look too closely. Local discount shop was selling Simonitz Liquid Diamond at £1.95 for a big tin - seems to do a pretty good job.
