New SEAT looks like a Datsun Cherry - Mr Fox
I saw a new seat Ibiza today, and whilst I'm all for recycling, I can't believe they have served up a recycled version of the 1970s Datsun 100A

look at www.fortunecity.co.uk/pitstop/racer/108/cherry.html and you'll see exactly what I mean, the swept up rear of the body is identical to the Datsun.

I know they had to rush a mid range saloon to market after the awful Toledo bombed, so they rehashed the Audi A4, that I can understand, but where did SEAT acquire the rights to the Datsun Cherry design ?

Yes - another really bad one for rear visibility (as was the Datsun) - see Immobiliser's current thread. I wouldn't touch one with a bargepole, for that reason alone.

Identical?

It is no where near as bad as the cherry.

Saw one the other day too and the swage line going down as it runs from front to back just looks wrong.

rehashed the Audi A4? The Ibiza is Polo based. Isn't it?

I nominated the 70s Datsun Cherry as one of the ugliest cars ever and was amazed that people seemed to vote on factors that were nothing to do with appearance, so the Cherry escaped the list. This is positively beautiful in comparison.

The Toledo isn't at all bad, it's just the fact that it was presented as a mid-range Mondeo/Vectra competitor that let it down. If it were presented as a more practical Altea with a bigger boot, or a Golf Plus rival, the hard of thinking wouldn't have been so confused by it. It's a very good car, I've had one but made the schoolboy error of getting the 1.6 petrol model, which is underpowered and thirsty.

In diesel form I prefer them to Golfs, Focuseseses, Astras etc and that's where the model should have been pitched.

The Altea XL made the uglier Toledo redundant.

Funny. I see it the other way round. Didn't see the point of launching the XL when the quite-handsome-actually Toledo already existed, but was just being marketed in the wrong segment.

I am disappointed with SEATs regurgitation of the A4 though, I had hoped for a new Leon-style saloon and estate.
