99 1.4 Whistling / screeching noise and intermitte - clara211
Hi

My 206 has just started to make a whistling / screeching noise when i am driving it. It is there all time but seems to go away at over 20 revs. It is similar to a fan belt noise but isn't as loud. Could it still be the fan belt? Also tonight when i had just started it the revs increased and decreased on their own. When I then tried to pull away there wasn't much power and then it came back - juddery but not for very long. Could the two things be linked?

Cam Belt tensioner can screech when worn out. Otherwise check condition of auxiliary belt. If its getting near a cam belt change consider getting the whole lot replaced sooner rather than later. Check also the condition of the crank pulley its a two piece contrivance bonded together with rubber and can separate. All can cause a catastrophic engine failure if the cambelt gets thrown off by the tensioner pulley siezing or by the auxiliary belt failing.
