VED increases to be postponed? [Read Only] - Sulphur Man
A number of today's papers report that Chancellor Darling is going to postpone next years VED increases to stimulate car sales - large and powerful models being those that will benefit most. VAT to come down too apparently.

Aaahh... green motoring. Nice while it lasted.

They'll reintroduce it and worse if (god forbid) they get in again.

Funny how a little while ago, Mr Brown & co were so concerned about global warming, flying around the world spouting on and on and on about it

But now there's a recession an election coming, it's suddenly not a concern

A serious lack of sincerity from our PM

Triple anger all round then.
1)From those that heaved off their big petrol snorter in anticipation.
2) From those that wanted to upgrade to a snorter, but didn`t
3) From everyone as we all know that `the writing is on the wall` and once on - it won`t delete from peoples minds.

I just hope they don't do something daft and postpone it for a year or so.

This will only lead to more confusion and uncertainty about what will happen and when.

Inevitable result: more damage to both new and used car markets and a continued freefall in prices.

They either need to bring in these VED increases as planned and get it over and done with (not that I'm looking forward to it mind) or can them and make it a final decision.

Half the problem with the economy at the moment is consumer fear. Governments flip-flopping like this are bad news for us all. They need to make a decision (good or bad) and stick to it, otherwise how the hell do we know what do for the best?
