Hi I have a misfire now after the alternator/power steering drive belt snapped and chewed up! the car will start everytime but its missing and white smoke from the back.
AA guy said it could be that the belt that broke has somehow caused the cambelt to jump a tooth and altered the timing??
Just wondered if anyone can help in terms of how do I go about checking the timing is correct and the best way of solving it?
Also (being greedy now!!) when the car was running it ran great loads of power good economy BUT there seemed to be what sounded like a cam rattle that would only be there between 1200 - 3000rpm and only while driving and not when stationary??? any ideas
Thanks for your time

That does indeed sound like a jumped belt - very common if the ancilliary belt shreds.

Get the cam belt and rollers replaced by a competent garage; that is no job for the inexperienced. Consider a new waterpump at the same time.

The rattle sounds injector-related; get an experienced man to check the injector smooth-running correction figures.

Thanks for the reply very much appreciated. The belt and tensioners were done about a month ago and the car has done about 1000miles since then. Not sure if the ancilliary belt was done tho!!! I was told it could have hit a valve causing the misfire as well hope not!! is there any way of checking without taking the head off? The engines starts and turns over by hand without any undue noises just this misfire!
The car is going into hospital hopefully tomorrow.
Thanks again for your reply.

You just whip the glow-plugs out and screw in an adaptor to check the compressions.

If the auxiliary belt was new; then a warranty claim is needed. If not; maybe it didn't like being retensioned, or wasn't seated correctly on all pulleys.
