My wife's Focus Zeetec doesn't have a factory fitted front heated windscreen. Recently a replacement screen was fitted (the original was chipped) but the installer had only a heated type at hand - and fitted this. I've bought the fascia switch to control a front heated screen. Could my local garage easily connect up the electrics to make the new, heated screen operate, or should I forget it ?

I've retro-fitted HFSs to other Fords, but not a Focus, so this should be possible.

The wiring diagram looks straightforward enough; there is one fuse and one relay - which is switched by both the A/C control module and the M/F module - presumably for the timing function.

Much of the circuitry may be pre-installed - or come as a stand-alone loom. [Breakers?]

An auto-electrician would be a better bet than a mechanic - unless he's familiar with wiring systems.

If the car never had a heated screen from new, then I doubt if the wiring is present. It is possible to make the system function as original but would need to be connected to engine bay relay box, timer control module and the screen itself(left and right elements). Is it worth it?Only if we see a lot of frosty mornings then it is.hth

elekie&a/c doctor,

I have a Ford Focus HFS and the connection on the drivers side is broken in half. Can this be repaired, in your opinion.

Have you tried the suggestions in your other thread? Or can provide a photo of the 'ribbon'?

Firstly congratulations on your new screen, very lucky indeed!

If you fail with Screwloose's approach then I'd go the "botch" route.

Go to your breakers and fetch out a big grey relay with a big red 'F' on the top of it from a late 80s or early 90s Ford with heated windscreen (might be under the dash on Escorts), part number 88AG-14512-AA (last letter or year isn't important). A Haynes will say what goes where and all they'll need to find is a fused constant high-current feed, an ignition or engine-on feed, and a local earth.

Sure it'll be completely separate and not cleverly controlled with all your other gubbins but it'll work and give an 8-minute on timer.

Thanks to mfarrow for the advice - and to screwloose for the suggestions. I'll investigate the loom first to see if the connections are present. As mentioned, I was lucky enough to find a fascia switch module on ebay (£5) and it seems to be unused. If there are connections for the switch well...ok that would be unlikely. If there aren't any existing connections on the loom, I'll go down the grey relay road. Thanks to you both for your help.

Have a look in the engine-bay box for fuse position 4 - does it have terminals fitted?

Ditto relay position 3. If that is wired, then you only need to connect the fusebox to the screen and wire the switch.
