04 1.8 r/wiper not parking in the right position. - wozzatdci
Hi,

My rear wiper has stopped parking in the correct place and now parks about 1/3 of the way through its cycle. The wash function works okay and it does the 5 swipes to clean the window but when it finishes and parks, it ends up in the wrong position. Is there a relay somewhere that needs replacing???

Hope you can help, its beginning to drive me mad.

slt

Found this on a Focus Forum.

Some 2002-2005 Focus vehicles may exhibit concerns with the intermittent wiper function or wiper park function. The wipers will operate properly in the normal and/or high speed setting. Symptoms may include intermittent wipers inoperative, one sweep function stops in the middle of the glass when the stalk is released (sweep function is operational if the stalk is held), wipers jumping up when parked from the intermittent mode."

"To service, replace the wiper relay. If the condition is still present, continue with normal Workshop Manual diagnosis."

I took a chance and replaced the wiper relay by purchasing one at my Ford dealership this morning and it took care of the problem...no more out of place wipers when on. The relay is under the dashboard in the fuse block. The cost for me was $12.49.

and this ...............I bought the relay for this. It was $15 and it fixed my problem completely. It was located in relay location R19 in my 04 focus.

Thanks very much Halmer, I'll order one and see if it fixes the problem.

I think you will find this relay only controls the park circuit for the front wipers. To check the rear park circuit, the tailgate panel will need to be removed to check for power supplies.hth

There are 2 intermittent relays though: 1 for the front wipers and 1 for the rear. I'm willing to spend a few quid on a relay which might fix it. If not, I can always stick it on Ebay and get some cash back.

The front wipers on my 02 1.6 Zetec will not self-return when you use the one - push down - single wipe mode. They self park otherwise. Will a new relay cure this then?

Bought a new relay for £8 and got my local garage to do the job. Front push down single wipe works fine now.

I've been having the same problem - self park not working - but I think it might not be the relay. I just took out the fuse panel and tried some swapping.

I pulled out R18 and the rear wiper stopped working

I pulled out R19, and the front self park still didn't work. I put that relay in R18, and the rear wiper started working again.

I put the rear relay from R18 in R19, but the front wipers still don't self park.

So it seems like the relays are both fine, and I have another problem. Anybody got experience of getting at and dismantling the wiper motor? Where is the self park position switch?

Thanks
