To answer the question Stu, no that title definitely goes to the Porsche Carrera 997. My neighbour has one and I find myself looking at it in the underground car park and wondering whether I would have to sell one or both kidneys to get one. The combination of styling and detailing (e.g. the headlights) is amazing as is the sound.
Quite like the R8 though, it reminds me of one of the cars from Captain Scarlet.

Doesn't do a thing for me, but then very few of the supposed 'supercars' do.
Looks like a slightly bigger version of the flying coffin TT.

>>Porsche Carrera 997<<
Oh I love the sound but they just leave me cold, last Porsche I really liked was the 928.
Thing is, you buy any Porsche and people look at you thinking' I bet he bought the jacket and baseball cap aswell, twit '.
I love the idea of a not so young woman driving a supercar although it says more about the driver than the car - i have a customer of similar vintage who's car ownership list reads like a who's who of small boys bedroom posters. Nothing below £70k since ive known her. She even wrestled a TVR Chimera around for a few years - women are petrolheads too.

My money would go on a Porsche 911 GT3 I'm afraid. Been for a ride in one and simply breathtaking. If I had to nominate a favorite hot Audi it would be the last RS4 V8

It's impressive, but supercar development for me peaked with the Ferrari F40 in 1987. Supercars aren't supposed to have quality plastic interiors and everyday useability. They're supposed to idle like a bag of nails, have acres of tape and bare metal insde, spit fire from the exhausts, sound a way that the regulations in the last few years have rendered impossible and scare the living carp out of you every time you open the throttles. And I can think of nothing that does it better than a 20 year old Ferrari.
With the exception of the GT series 911's, I find the refinement of German supercars completely at odds with what my idea of a supercar should be. It's a personal thing.
Here I am talking as if it's even relevant to me, but if I were in the financial position to invest a six figure sum in a car, I wouldn't even shortlist the Germans. £40k on a fast saloon is a different matter though.
Cheers

Supercars [and roads] peaked over 70 yrs ago..... Auto Union V16 clocked at 400Kph on the new dual carriageway from Frankfurt to Darmstadt. Good old Audi!

I've never really 'got' Audis but I saw an R8 in the metal the other day and it is achingly lovely. I'd love one.
Stu, I know what you mean about Porsches, newish ones at least. I expect to get a whiff of Porsche aftershave and a glimpse of Porsche cufflinks as they drive by. A slight hint of golf club about them too. I mean the place where you play golf, not a no. 3 iron :-)

I saw another one today, in dark grey, im being teased!
Personally, id like one is BRG with cream leather if poss.
Im not sure you really need a car faster than an R8 - a Veyron is a nice car to show off with down a pub, but you could prob never use the extra performance legally or on british roads.

We have one local - for some reason they saw fit to spec an optional (?) rear spoiler. You know what... it's definately a spoiler. It looks wrong.
I'd have one but might do without the contrasting colour for the panels in the side.

the last RS4 V8
Spot on on both counts Mattbod. Unless we include 328 BMWs and certain discreet Mercedes hot rods...

The R8 is a handsome car but I find the LED's a bit chav, I also think it will date very badly but if you can afford it then I guess that doesn't bother you. It's not the sort of car you can really park on the road either while the Porsche is.
For me it would have to be a 997TT (Porsche Carrera Turbo), in black, with cream leather. I love turbos & it's a wee bit quicker in road use than a GT3. And if GT3 is your thing - what's wrong with the GT2 which is the GT3 with the turbo engine? A snip at £130k.

Or a forgotten classic - Honda NSX.

Somethings are best left forgotten. Even Honda "talked" about a replacement but it's not quite here...F1 sucked up the budget.

Saw (and heard) an R8 today. Unfortunately it looked like a 'scrapyard special' as the car was light silver, apart from the bonnet which was black. Great sound though.
I was overtaken by an F40 the other week on the M1. Flew past in the outside lane, caught up traffic, dropped a cog and blipped it. I bet the R8 doesn't throw flames out of it's exhaust!

If you're spending that kind of money go for a Ruf 911 RTurbo with 590bhp and 612ft lbs torque for US$200k

I think the problem with most supercars is that they generally make the driver look like a prat. Buy a Ferrari and you look much like the Porsche driver - obvious and self-absorbed.
Buy a Lambo and you look like your inadequate in a vital area.
Thats the problem with supercars - they are tasteless in general. Thats why I like the Audi - it doesnt live on past glories yet it has emerged as a great car despite that without being over the top.

Past glories - see my earlier post! And Audi does have a great pedigree - the stunning Horch 855 straight eight is one of my favourite dream sports cars. [no, I have no connection with VW/Audi....or is it Porsche/VW now?!]
