I spoted that on the Beeb website earlier. How stupid can they be making that roadsign? Waiting for a reply to an email and get an out of office reply! Then again, should the out of office reply have been in Welsh only? And should it be sent for security reasons to external emails - our company does not send out off office replies to anyone but internal emails for security reasons. Its not new from 2006 Cyclists were left confused by a bilingual road sign telling them they had problems with an inflamed bladder. The "cyclists dismount" sign between Penarth and Cardiff became "llid y bledren dymchwelyd" in Welsh - literally "bladder inflammation upset" (or tip or overturn). The Vale of Glamorgan Council said new signs were being made. It is possible that an online translation led to confusion between cyclists and cystitis. Reply | Report as offensive | Link

Yeah, translation software, worse than useless. I once had a lot to do with a text that came back from the publisher in Adobe Acrobat. Adobe Reader has the facility to read the text aloud. It is absolutely hilarious, an American dalek voice reading with often comically inappropriate emphasis, sometimes breaking into rapid strings of semi-code, sometimes lowering the voice conspiratorially for anything in brackets, raising it for anything in quotes, and other jokes too numerous to mention. The best thing, since it was a text on cinema, was that for some reason the voice didn't know the word 'film'. So it was pronounced throughout: Eff-eye-ellem. Had me rolling on the floor. recently while setting up a website for work i used an online translator, i proudly showed off the site at work the following day to be greeted by roars of laughter as i had 3 pages of total goobelbegook. luckily there were enough real live speakers of welsh to correct it before it became public otherwise i would have been dragged to the border behind the nearest sheep transporter.
