Today's Auction Report - J500ANT
Judging by that report, seems a new smart is a better place to put your money than most other new cars ;)

I'm reeling from the MB 124 coupe E320 96P 59K miles(almost my own car) sold at £1800...gulp.

I may just go boil my head...

Cant believe how little a two year old MX5 is worth with only 10K on it - only knows what someone would offer me for my TF 160 thats two years older, albeit same miles. Good job I dont intend to sell it any time soon.

In 12 months time the above prices will look good in my view....

the Porsche Cayenne 4.5 S - how much was it new - what was the loss over 2 and a bit years ?

"Mercedes ML500, 2002/52, 34k miles £4,500s"

That's a lot of car for the money.

Re The Porsche - I was recently reading in one car mag of an owner of a 2 year old one who walked into the local Porsche dealer with a view to changing.

He was offered £19k - the car was over £70k when new.

We own three cars at the moment. We only really need two. We should sell one. However their values are so constrained at the moment that we are forced to conclude that it is probably not worth selling one at present. Even if car values do not recover in the foreseeable future the fact is they are are probably worth more to us in convenience terms than any small financial gain which could be made by selling. Both my wife and I are by necessity regular high mileage drivers. The security of having a spare car is worth more to us than the pittance we would gain or save by selling one of the cars.

Cannae believe the price of that VW Phaeton. That's a nearly new Bentley (almost) for 8k.
Today's Auction Report - midlifecrisis
The Focus's (Foci?) aren't much cheaper than dealers forecourts. Plenty around for £4500-5000.
Today's Auction Report - harib
That's amazing. A Smart Passion - 57 plate - with 7,000 on the clock went for £8K, whilst a Skoda Fabia - 07 plate - with 385 miles on the clock went for £5,375! Is a Smart really worth over 2K more???

No, but the badge must be. :-)

It was the two Range Rover Sports that I found amusing.

The Supercharged V8 costs over £20k more than a similar spec TDV6 to buy new, yet at a 3 years old, the diesel is worth nearly £5k more, even with slightly higher mileage.

Was there ever a more clear example of the impact RFL changes and fuel prices have had on car resale values?

I'm half way between being annoyed and disappointed.

I can now afford a Lambo Gallardo. I've always wanted a Lambo. Ever since my dreams of a Countach as a youngster I've always wanted one.

However I've had no work for eight months, though I do have five weeks penciled in for a weeks time at an almost derisory rate so I'm left counting pennies and hoping that the economy does pick up before the end of the decade.

The only way to get a decent bit of cash back at resale time is to get a Mini Cooper D.
Today's Auction Report - NowWheels
Not so sure. Those ex-Foxtons Mk II Coopers at £7k - £8k have not held
up as well as MINIs used to.

Supply and demand, innit? I guess that with the estate agents doing no business this year, Foxtons are flooding the market with the cars of their former staff.
Today's Auction Report - sony
i get lost with what to buy and not. According to one or two motoring magazines, The Cooper Diesel was a clear winner in terms of hardly any depreciation. Was one of the most economical cars on the road but bags of fun to drive?

Hey Spikey, what do you do then? I am an entertainer and if the phone don't ring, I don't eat. My diary's full-ish for 08 but I'm worried about the beginning of 09, ha ha

Motoring mags deal in the past.
We are talking the present and future....

It's like watching property programs on TV - made 9 months or a year ago when property prices were rising and everyone wanted to buy - the situation has changed .

Ditto with cars.. Credit is tight/expensive and difficult to get.. People are scared of losing their jobs..Will they splaxh out top wack to buy a USED Mini or will they pay less and get a cheap new runaround?

UK interest rates are still high...

"I may just go boil my head"

Just carry on enjoying the car, as I do with mine. If others don't share your sense of its value, so what? You didn't buy it expecting its market value to appreciate, surely?
Today's Auction Report - gordonbennet
Roger, i know, its just i'm quite shocked at just how cheap they've become and so quickly, i really thought the coupe and convertible would hold fire a little.

Mind you there will be a certain pleasure taxing the old girl for £200 instead of £450 in April 2010..;)
Well that is unless Dick Turpin sees an unemptied purse to plunder.
Today's Auction Report - SuperBuyer
On the other side of the fence, the VW Golf Mk 4 150bhp diesel (2002) with 79K on went for £3,575. Not bad for a £17K car new at 6 years old? My Golf might still be worth something, being a 2004 150bhp, but with 147K on... Anybody want one?

A change of jobs and a company car (a delightful Vectra CDTI SRI Estate) that happens in 4 weeks means I can't decide whether to keep the Golf and make SWMBO learn to drive!
