For some reason my daughter wants to get her artic lorry licence (und the belief that you can earn good money driving lorries)..
Last year there was a gov. scheme to encourage women lorry drivers.. through an NVQ bringing the cost down from £1000+ to £200.
This scheme has now ended to be replaced by one for people with under 5 GCSE's.. my daughter got 9 GCSE's..
Is there any other way of getting driver training without spending £1000+..

All of the schemes we knew of seem to have ended now but it was wrong anyway that they were just directed at attracting more women into the trade.
They should be directed at any gender who want to do it.
They found that almost 80% of the women who passed this way never actually went on to use their licence at all. Maybe it was just the opportunity to do something different for free, when a lot of young lads would have gone on to make a career of it.
So Billy, sit her down and explain to her about the long, long hours. Tell her once she has her HGV Licence there is no such word as 'can't' and suggest that she would always have to do 'as good, if not better' than the lads do.
Then if she still want to do it, just open your wallet and pay for it for her!!
Good luck to her, and all credit to you if you help her on the way:)

What training is available depends on what part of the country you live in, who provides the funding (National Government - eg Learning Skills Council, Dept for Work and Pensions -, Local Authority, whether the funding is from Europe - via ESF), and what the target customer group is for the training (eg unemployed, socially disadvantaged, ethnicity, etc). Most training coming through national government or through the European Social Fund targets specific customer groups. If your daughter is unemployed, the Jobcentre would be the first place to ask, and they would be aware of what is available locally. In some instances, Jobcentres can buy training as one-off purchases - this also depends on whether your duaghter fits into a customer group they can help.
