A colleague of mine is leaving her job and moving abroad. So as well as everything else she wants to sell her car. It's a 2006 Astra 1.6 Club, with 12,000 miles on it.
There is no point in a trade in as she doesn't need another car in the UK. She does however need to sell it as close to when she leaves as possible which is early December. So that is the main issue, no point in selling now if she needs it and it's too much of a risk to put it in Autotrader or ebay the week before she goes as there is no guarantee of a sale.
Any advice greatly appreciated. Many thanks.

How about the BCA SureSell scheme? Or find an indy dealer who'll buy it for cash. It'll be shocking time to sell a car though.

Might be worth ringing around a few car hire companies to see if they will do a good deal on a month's rental. That way she could afford to sell now and have one less hassle at a time when there will be much to do.

Can't speak for Vauxhalls, but my daughter did exactly that 4 years ago when she moved to Holland. I was asked to get her Punto sold - luckily it wasn't a bog-standard model, and I got cash for it at a Chester garage I happened to know specialised in Fiats, though they aren't an official franchise. I may not have got the best price, but it certainly saved a lot of hassle.

When my company moved me abroad, they paid for an AA inspection and valuation of the car. With a carefully worded advert, emphasising the inspection it sold within 24 hours - people seemed to love the derisking element of the deal. We then rented for a few weeks - as someone said, there are cheaper rental rates out there for monthly hires.

With a fairly recent car with low mileage it may be worth trying a Vauxhall main dealer.

The important thing is to get the price right. As long as she's expecting £5000 you'll sell it subject to collection in December. As long as colour and condition OK.

It's not selling the car that takes the time, it's getting the price right.

How much is she expecting for the car?
