Does anyone have any ideas on how to open a passat bonnet when the mechanism doesn't work? The bonnet release doesnt even make the T bar pop out but you can hear the cable moving under the bonnet. I've tried pulling the cable from the footwell with mole grips but nothing!!.I've poked a screwdriver under the T bar which makes it come out partially but I dont want to snap it. Needed the bonnet open as the cars gone into limp mode but getting the bonnet up would be a good start!!! Worst car I've ever had!

What did you do to release your bonnet. I have the same problem and haven't a clue what to do.

You need to be able to get the bonnet open to the secondary catch, you may need to get someone to pull up on the bonnet while you pull the release handle.
Then follow these instructions if it is the secondary release tap that has become detached :-
