I would like to know what people think...

Or you could buy an 07 old shape Mondeo or Vectra well under £7k...
The Avenger simply isn't a very good car and won't be worth much at all when you sell (e.g., 07 Lacettis are going for £4k).
I can see this car easily becoming £5k in a year so it's not exactly cheap unless you simply must be the first name on a V5.

Well if you like a car where you can move the steering wheel 6 inches to the left but the wheels stay straight this could be just the thing!
Its case like this that should make Chysler give up. Its funny how an old Hilman marque has come out of the dead, what next the Dodge Imp!
I personaly would rather have the Mondeo, but then again I would never spend 7k on a Mondeo.

Buy it: show the world you have more money than sense and good judgement!

when i lived in the states i had a dodge intrepid, was a great car
rather like a blown up uk repmobile
but with auto and fatter tyres with less grip
loved it
but in the uk it would be too big in my view
not looked at these slightly more modern versions
would make sense with a proper auto but not a CVT, wouldnt think a manual would suit it

The Avenger seems to be the Dodge version of the new Chrysler Sebring. I thought Chrysler had plummeted the depths of cheap and nasty motoring with the old Sebring until I discovered to my amazement that the new model is even worse. Chrysler appear to have left no stone unturned in their quest to make the interior and driving experience of this vehicle as unpleasant as possible. I would take a 4 year old Mondeo as it is far nicer to drive and likely to last far longer. Actually I would take a 10 year old Mondeo for the same reason.
A real shame that Chrysler is in this downward spiral as the predecessor of the Sebring, the late 90s Chrysler Cirrus/ Dodge Stratus, was actually good to drive for its time. And, dare I say it, I like the 300C, though not driven the recently facelifted version.

So are we saying that this car is sub-Chevrolet Epica/Hyundai Sonata/Kia Magentis territory then?
|
Time to let HJ have the final word - from his car-by-car
"Good: Looks American, if that's what you want.
Bad: Pointless alternative to the much more sophisticated Mondeo."

Have to agree with you Bagpuss on the subject of the Sebring. We just had the dubious pleasure of driving one to Miami, the Keys and back to Orlando. With its acres of bland grey plastic inside and the wallowing steering and suspension it was not the most pleasant of drives. Your right about Chrysler going backwards as on previous visits to the US we have driven all the cars you mention and they were all head and shoulders above the Sebring.

I would. I did.
So far no problems - 3600 miles since Oct 13.

08 Reg Vectras from £5999 with under 15K mls seems a better buy - Motorpoint. At least it can be re-sold in the future (if GM stays in business)

I think Chrysler servicing is quite expensive, this could put a lot of people off. Don't know about reliability and safety, the quality of interior plastics seems to be the main buying criteria for the British motorist. ;-)
