Which is faster round a track
----- round 1 ----- same driver, track, conditions:
* A 204BHP Porsche Boxster with Porsche sports handling kit fitted (springs, shocks, lowered 10mm)
* A 250BHP Toyota MR2 turbo
---------------------
-----round 2----- same track, conditions
* Me (an experienced road driver but no track experience) in A 204BHP Porsche Boxster with Porsche sports handling kit fitted (springs, shocks, lowered 10mm)
* Stig in a 8 year old Focus 1.8 Zetec
-----I think Stig-----

depends which track, how twisty it gets, or is it flat out banked job, depends what tyres are fitted
same question as will the best tank crew win or the best tank, or best fighter versus best crew in something not quite as good
good question

The MR2 would almost certainly beat the Boxster, given that they both weigh about the same and handling would be quite similar, as long as the MR2 wasn't an old tired shed!
On a winding track where it would be difficult for an amateur to wind the Boxster up to full speed, the Stig would win easily, on a wide open track with long straights, you could make up for any advantage Stig would have in skill and maybe, just maybe edge him out...

It's a bit like the time Clarkson tried to get round the Nurburgring in 10 minutes in a Jaguar X Type (I think) and just about did it, then a girl in a Ford Transit did it quicker!

The girl in the Transit was Sabine Schmitz (formerly Sabine Reck).
She drives one of the M5 'ring taxis you can hire.

Course Clarkson's ego is a load no current production car was actually designed to carry!

Actually she was slightly slower. Jezzer managed it fractionally under 10 mins, whereas Sabine was just fractionally over.

Clarkson was in a diesel S-Type IIRC.

Nurburgring Schnurburgring. Jaguar Schmaguar. He/she wants to try getting a clapped out Mondeo diesel estate full to the roof and sitting on its bumpstops round the M25 in a hurry on a wet Monday morning.......

Re the Porshe and the MR2, it'll be a close one.
However, re you and the stig, i'd put my money on you. An 8 year old 1.8 zetec will lose some bhp over the years, which no matter how hard it'll be pushed, will be no match for a Boxster around a track :)
|
Humph "might" have taken his Cat out by then though! and regained all that "lost over the years" horsepower!

It didn't have a great deal of power when it was new bless it. I like to think of it as more of a boulevard cruiser. Elbow out of window, Neil Diamond on the CD for a bit of retro-chic, sunroof open, listening to the gentle rattle of the four pot diesel..........
"Hey Babe, check out the fake wood dash honey...."

I suppose Neil Diamond does sound a bit like a four pot diesel if you listen carefully ------------ :)
