1996 Si with grey bumpers, really? - Lucretia
Does anyone who knows the history of these things know if they ever came with grey bumpers rather than body coloured ones?

I'm looking at one (P reg) but it doesn't look how I expect, also there is a badge on the back which looks like "16v" (I'm going to see it later in the week).

Thanks,
Luke.

Hi
I had a 1995/6 model (MkIV) Fiesta Si on an N plate and they originally came with grey bumpers when they were first released in 1995. Body coloured bumpers came later. When they first came out electric windows and alloys were optional, so the spec was fairly basic. It would have a 16V badge on the rear tailgate and Si on the wing near the side turn indicator. Note this is only on the Si with the 1.25 or 1.4 zetec engine under the bonnet and not the previous mark 3 Fiesta version of the Si as this was still around in 1995/6.
Good luck with finding the right car.

Ah, gotcha.

It's this one tinyurl.com/3sn54m totally overpriced afaik tho, he originally listed it at work for £1250, then reduced to £1k

Thanks,

£1,000 for a twelve year old car is a bit silly. He should put a fresh MoT on it for a start.

I was thinking more 700-800. But I wonder why it's needed so much work doing as well.

Could it be the high price reflects the work he's had done? I reckon he's bought a pup, spent loads on it and is trying to recoup his money.

When you say "pup" I take it you mean lemon?

re work: yeah, probably.

A girl at work got a Fiesta Freestyle on an 02 plate, 1.25 16V engine, CD, alloys and Air Con for £1300 the other day. This is overpriced.

Going by this then, I take it that this one (tinyurl.com/3nv7ps) is also overpriced?

This is also a work ad, where the guy mentions he's added a cd player and speakers that originally cost 399 (this is cut off the ad, but you should be able to highlight and cut n paste it elsewhere to see the full ad).

Thanks,
Luke.

Mr Blue's friend apparently got a complete bargain. From a brief look at eBay sold prices, these cars make silly money.

Why not look up market a bit. A Nissan Almera? Ford Mondeo? Enjoy your motoring...

Yeah, I think she did. These 2 are actually ads from work, but they've also been put up on ebay. A lot of stuff on ebay is overpriced, but I'd like to know what the 1.4 is worth though, £1200? Less?

Thanks,
Luke.

I wish my 2000 model did come with grey bumpers.

Most ridiculous "feature" I ever known = painted bumpers.

At one time only suspect Rover 214/216 came with peeling painted bumpers but now everything has them. WHY?! Do the dealer's bodyshops need them to turn a profit?

If anyone knows where to buy proper grey bumpers (not the yellow paintable ones) I would like to have the contact details, please.

Luke - have I seen you mention that you don't yet have a full licence? Have you checked insurance costs? You may find that you need a Gp 1/2 car to be able to afford to use it.

Yep, on provisional. Either way, it's gonna be steep, but I've already checked them and it's doable.

Sorry for asking!

Just thinking because my first car was exactly what you're looking at and apparently all the "normal" insurance groups went out of the window and it was a group 6 or something for me because of my age/inexperience.

Are you putting quotes through online or just looking at the groups for this car? Also, I don't know if you prefer a Fiesta but if you're looking at them purely because you think they're cheap, look at bigger cars. You might be surprised at how much more car you can get for the same money.

That being said - cracking cars. Mum's got a 2001 on a Y plate and is quite an unforgiving owner and it holds up to the abuse very well.

Good luck!

Yeah, they are higher than the smaller cars, but I don't want a massive car, just something small with a bit of oomph. Was looking at Polo's but I just can't find one cheap enough at the right spec.

Online.

Autotrader comparison: Addmiral came in lowest with £511.85 with sound equipment cover, but no windscreen cover.

DirectLine, £873.60

This is both for a 1996 Fiesta Si.

I might have a butchers at a Civic as they're quite nice.

Yeah, supposed to be decent little cars if you can get one that's not been abused.

I'd be more concerned with that fact that the seller is trying to shift it on after 8 months!

Is this a case of "loads of work done (but much more needs to be carried out)" with the latter written in invisible ink ???

Yeah, I've also thought the same thing as you.

I've just rung up a number on autotrader for a 1.25 Ghia 5dr. The number was listed as private, asked about "the car" he said "which car?" I asked if he was a dealer, he said he was. He had a really thick accent and from what I could gather he deals from a total garage, hmmm. Car sounded really nice, fsh, good condition and only 1 owner, shame really.

Why is it so hard to find a decent car?

Luke.
