More Servicing Than Usual? - Glaikit Wee Scunner {P}
I note that my Hyundai needs a new pollen filter at every service and a new air cleaner and spark plugs every second service. At close to 20,000 miles pa I'll keep the parts department busy.
This seems a retrograde step from my previous string of VWs which only required such items at much longer intervals. However, I think the VW servce costs were about the same.
Puzzling.

Daughter's Mitsubishi Colt is the same - I asked the dealer not to change the pollen filter and they said they wouldn't be able to stamp the service book.

Despite two separate people quoting £125 +VAT (quoting +VAT is a con for a start) for the service, they presented us with a bill for £199. Won't be going there again.

Hyundai have a very traditional approach to servicing -- starter oil, services every 10,000 miles, cambelt every 40,000 miles despite the engines having no particular record of premature cambelt failure etc.

If they are charging the same for servicing as VW while replacing parts more often, this seems like a good enough deal to me. I don't believe in the efficacy of long-life service items, as against replacing them at the correct times.

And I think they're pretty expensive as well. I was getting quotes of near £200 for an oil and filter change on the Getz (plus the arms length list of 'checks').

I know what you mean, I didn't both with a filter last time. I wonder how much they are France? £25.39 + Vat here (1 year ago).

Just get it done at an independent -- five year warranty so any question of 'goodwill' on the part of the dealer doesn't really apply.

Used to get my Accent done at a backstreet, giving them the list of checkpoints to run off. £120 all inclusive, seemed fair enough to me. They changed the sparks etc at every service as well rather than every other one.

Spot on. The Getz was done at an independent using original parts for less than half the quoted Hyundai price. Took me around the car afterwards showing everything that had been done. (Nice to see that he had actually lubricated all the hinges..just demonstrated attention to detail)
