Heading for Canterbury tomorrow and Ferry Wednesday morning.
How much time will I lose in the roadworks on the M1 around Luton at 19:00 ish or is it worth going A14/M11?

At 19:00 hr it is not that bad. Though you'll be moving at 50 mph after M1/J10.
|
Second that, by that time in the evening there's less traffic and everybodys doing a good steady 50 so you lose hardly any time at all over 70 really. If that's your quickest plotted route you should be fine, so stick to it. Daytime is a bit more sticky...
You can check this site before you go for any other particular holdups:

Thanks
We went that way last October and it was stationary - avoided it since.

The most direct route is not always the quickest...
...it is normally the most congested!
Coming on to the M25 off the M11 cuts all out between the M1 <----> M11
There are currently no major road works on the A14 or the M11 that I can find being highlighted on the internet.
I always go the M1/A14/M11 route - a lot quicker.

I find the M20 much preferable to the A2/M2 to Dover;three lanes almost all of the way and much less traffic.
|
Tonight's hotel is just off the A2
Also no lorries parked on the A2.

|
No lorries on the M20 either;P&O are operating a more frequent service but their boats are pretty full.
