I have just got a new car for the wife and now I need to decide which of our other cars to sell.
Car 1) Peugoet 106 1995 1.1 5 door hatch with 40,000 miles & FSH. This is currently my car, it is in very good condition and has been in the family since new.
Car 2) Fiat Punto 1998 60S 3 door hatch with 50,000 miles & FSH. This has been my wifes car. We brought it 'nearly new' and although it is mechanically sound, the body work has suffered from a few shopping trolley knocks, and bird poos etc.
Whichever car I decide to keep I will be using for my daily commute to work (66 mile round trip on fast unconjested country roads).
So, which car do I sell? I think there is only about £500 difference between the 2 cars values.
Thanks in advance for your advice.

assuming you are short enough to fit the 106 then dump the fiat
problematical little cars r puntos
give it a good send off - crash it into a speed camera and claim the insurance

Yeah, the punto is the one to sell. A friend's gearbox went at 40-odd thou and my aunty's exhaust fell off last week, at 30000. Fun cars to drive but unreliable and the Pug would be more reliable and just as fun.

I agree with Crazed that if you fit in it, the Peugeot is more fun to drive and has a better ride. However, in my experience PSA cars are the first of the mainstream manufacturers products to show signs of rust but the Fiat has a fully galvanised body. Mechanical repairs are much cheaper than bodywork. I cdon't know how long you wish to keep either car but would expect the Fiat to be passing MOTs after the Pug has crumbled away

John,
This far from my experience of Peugeots from the past decade on the MOT ramp.
Most modern cars are way ahead of anything from 20 years ago in terms of rust resistance and you are right that the Fiats are OK, an F-reg Tipo is usually quite good.
But take cars from the early to mid 1990s and the Peugeots are usually absolutely perfect underneath. Not so many Nissans, Fords, Vauxhalls, Renaults, Land Rovers.

We had a K Reg fiat tipo for 8 years (Yes I know its sad!!) and its body remained perfect and never gave any problems. In my experience later Fiats are excellent apart from the odd electric glitch.

You could sell both and get something better?
Neither sounds particularly crash worthy on what are probably quite dangerous roads.

You could always keep both cars and get rid of the 'trouble' - it'd probably save you a lot of money in the long run and cars don't answer back, hog the bathroom, throw things, have periods etc. etc.. No offence to your wife.
