Good V/W dealer in North Wales ? - Pugugly
Mrs P's GTi will be due for a service in a couple of months - Having been disappointed with the supplying dealer's abysmal service we may do it whilst we're up in Wales. Located three dealers in the area where we'll be staying (near Llanberis)

1. Slaters in Abergele (Good experience at the Skoda side of things there)
2. Pentraeth Automotive on Anglesey
3. Regent Garage in Criccieth

Any local knowledge out there ?

We're not going to the Chester VW site.

If you want to keep your car in warranty (and keep to a VW dealer proper) then word in these parts is that Pentraeth Auto is reasonably in possession of expertise.

However, if it's a VW specialist you're after then look no further than AVW on the Cybin industrial estate in Caernarfon. They are the bee's knees so I/m told

Pentraeth charged me £200+ for a first service on a polo 1.2. Vaux charged me £129 for a more comprehensive service on a CDTI 150 Vectra. Pentraeth £95 per hour, total £230

I waited for the car and the time charged was considerably more than the time they had the car

also noticed that vaux did advisories with contact during service. VW seem to be advising after services requiring more wrokshop time than vaux.

If you had a good experience with the Skoda side, then the whole business is probably family-owned and therefore likely to be a better bet than a part of a chain. They might need plenty of notice if you need a loan car.

Mine is on a service plan so I don't know what an individual service costs, or wheher VW have a standard price. Probably depends on whether yours is on fixed or variable intervals.

I would second the AVW recommendation. The chap in charge is a proper engineer (slightly boffin-esque & charming Englishman) & seems genuinley interested, which seems to rub-off on his mechanics. I've also used both the others mentioned, for new cars/servicing/parts over several years. I would only consider Pentraeth if main dealer is definitely required, (although I've only owned Audis - I imagine their VW side is similar..) they're pricey (for the area), but they seem to do things by the book - and the countryside & environs are nice thereabouts.

Totaly botched a friends BMW with injection probs had to go to main dealer to be fixed
As regards slaters/Pentreath then slaters is possibly better

Slaters it is then, they'd better have a courtesy car - Abergele isn't the most fascinating place to spend a few hours.

Sounds like a reasonable excuse to buy a Monkey bike to chuck in the back of the Roomster and.....well monkey about on really. Alternatively a push bike and some lycra garments.....

Steady - Lycra - Imagine having an accident wearing that almost as bad having a doll riding tandem !

Or even booking the Skoda in while wearing it. "There's lovely boyo" ! "You'll be from England then I expect ? "
