Thinking of getting a new one. Then I thought, why not investigate those nifty electric ones.

Anyone any experience? Recommendations?

GM - do I recall correctly you are in the North East?

If so, Henderson Garage Doors at Bowburn, Durham City, is a good place to start.

A guy who worked there told me some of the cheaper ones are poorly put together.

Suppose he would say that, but I wasn't buying at the time and have no other connection with the company.

Blimey, what a memory!

Bowburn is certainly near enough - just down the m-way - so I'll have a look.

Thanks v much.

We have three of the Henderson roller doors on our garages and they are really good. Unfortunately they aren't electric but that would have been quite a bit more money.

Make sure you see and hear any door operator working before you buy, my chamberlain liftmaster is quite noisy. My kids (adult) have a henderson unit which is silent.

When I was looking I found that Hormann and Novoferm seemed to be quite good. I got it fitted by a small local company and they did a really good job of it. I got a Hormann motor with a Novoferm sectional door. It is a year old now, and hasn't let me down. One of the advantages with a sectional or roller door is that you can park right up to it and still open it.

"you can park right up to it and still open it."

Also takes up minimum space one open as door will not protrude into the garage/roofspace.

As said earlier check how noisy they are, as they can make a racket if opened (manual one) quickly.

We've got a Henderson Screwdrive, but I don't think you can get that type any more. These days motorised doors tend to be chain driven. Henderson is a reputable company. tinyurl.com/4yddph

Electric garage doors along with electric gates are best thing since sliced bread - once you have them you wonder how you managed without.-- like cruise control/electric windows/ABS/remote locking/EBD/electric seats/remote fuel cap/turbo/AC/6CD/dipping mirrors /electric mirrors/etc.
In all seriousness electric garage doors are great whether up and over or roller.
