Crack in windscreen - njwatts
There is a very tiny chip in my windscreen causing a hairline crack only 4-5mm long.
Is there a way of protecting the area to prevent it getting any worse?

If it has already cracked then you can not stop it. Where abouts is it in the windscreen, this is probably a new windscreen job. Regards Peter

No, but it might not get any worse.

Depending where the crack is it may have to be changed no matter what. Regards Peter

I had a stone chip in the windscreen, which I took to autoglass to do their chip repair. they guy said that it was marginal, and it might hold, or it might crack. Over time, a small crack grew from it, about 4/5mm. I presumed this was the end, so called autoglass again. The guy came to look at it and said that he though that the crack was stable, and he thought it would hold, but if it didn't, it would spread rapidly, and there would be no question that the screen needed replacing.

Since then, the crack has remained stable.

I suppose this means that it'll let go this afternoon.....

If the crack is in the main viewing area of the driver then it would fail and MOT so by inference is illegal.

Yes, thanks. Autoglass say they will repair free of charge as my (comprehensive) insurance has no excess for this.

Had s small crack in the screen of a hire car... within days it spread. So got an Alfa 156 2.0TS for a few months instead ;-)

They can spread but it depends.
