Dublin car hire - no credit card - looking4car
Hi,
I'm off to Ireland next week and I'm looking to hire a car for a week.

I'm getting some good quotes

carhire3000.com £79.25

easycar.com £67.97

but they both require a credit card, and i don't have one.

Hertz will accept a debit card but their best price is £92.47.

The booking call centre don't appear interested in price matching or discount.

Any ideas on way forward ?

If I book with easycar or carhire3000, i guess I'll end up with a Hertz car anyway.

Thanks

Ask relative to pay on credit card and give them cash? Or apply for a CC and use it once and tear it up after trip and pay the balance off stright away

Ask relative to pay on credit card and give them cash?

That will only work if the relative goes on the trip with him.

Q. "Why can I pay by debit card but I need a credit card to collect the vehicle?
A. "Although easyCar will accept payment by debit card, a credit card is required for collection of the vehicle by the supplier of the vehicle.
Only one driver may be on the rental agreement voucher prior to arriving to collect the vehicle. This must be the credit card holder. For an additional charge, you may add additional drivers (excluding yourself) at the time collection."

They require a credit card as they swipe it to cover the excess in the insurance aspect of the hire. If they used your debit car it would take £500-£600 out of your account immediately. Regards Peter

Get a bus at the airport into Dublin, and travel on by public transport. Hire a car when you get to your destination. It'll probably be much cheaper.

I agree with PeterD, a credit card authorisation will be made for hundreds of pounds, but it will only check that you have this amount of credit (I.m not sure the amount is reserved), if this was done on a debit card, this amount would disappear from the account and reappear 3 days later.

Why don't you get one of the pay as you go credit cards, something like the Post Office's Visa Travelcard which you can actually load up with Euros ?

> something like the Post Office's Visa Travelcard

This is just another example of lazy journalism from auntie beeb.
These are not credit cards.

Other examples :

Inflation has gone up......

growth has gone down ....

hotter temperatures .....

cheaper prices ......

20,000 volts going through it

due to legal reasons .....

I'm sure there are plenty more.
