A few years ago it was easy to work out where a particular model came in the model range, for example a vauxhall corsa L, LS, GLS, CDX the badge told you without any confusion where the car came in the range.
But nowadays some strange names have appeared which give no indication as either the car is near the bottom or top of the range. One example which stands out is the Seat Aleta Reference. Reference???? Who the hell thinks of these names?
What are averybodys elses thoughts on this subject??

Some of them are dreamed up by PR companies, who research if any name or names that are possibilities are able to be used legally for the purpose.
Just as an aside, when Ford launched the Ka back in the 1990s in Corsica, I queried if it would be bringing out an Si model? .....:-)

... But some manufacturers have gone the other way.
Skoda Fabia has a model range that goes 1, 2, Sport and then 3. - Boring!

L= luxury LS = super luxury GLS = grand super luxury CD=corp diplomatique that was Fords thinking in the 70's I suppose its pretty much the same now.Mercedes follow the class size + the engine size as do BMW, VW use sports for the smaller cars and winds for their larger models I suppose they all mean something if you delve deep enough. The most optuse was the colt starrion should have been stallion but it got lost in translation.

That was Vauxhall/Opel, Ford went L. XL, GXL, then L, GL, Ghia with Populars, GTs and Es through in for good measure.
The idea now from most makers is to seperate the models though not to rank them, MB were probably the first exponents with Elegance and Avantgarde though Renault are a good example - so someone driving an Expression or Authentique feels no inferiority over someone else driving a Dynamique or Initiale, infering that choice is based on needs and preferences rather than budget or position in the company.

Drove past the local Hyundai dealers on the way to the tip this morning and saw a Hyundai Getz
surely I'm not the first to think they should do a special edition 'Tuft' ?
|
At some point it occured to me that "Getz" ( with a vowel change ) would be a great name for a Lamborghini or similar..........
;-)
Just jealous !!
