Why did the window go? - Tim Allcott
SWMBO stationary at lights last night in offside lane to go straight on (nearside lane turns left, stationary traffic in that lane too) when front nearside glass shatters (she says she heard loud bang).
She managed to drive home without the glass falling out. When she arrived, there was a small hole right at the top of the window, 7 or 8 mm., and one particle of glass inside the car
RAC autoglass fairly rapidly replaced the window, albeit with one that is slightly the wrong size, but I'm intrigued. Anyone any ideas why it went?

Pellet gun? Hypersonic fly? After effects of the "big bang"? ;-)
Why did the window go? - skorpio
a pot shot from scrotes with an air rifle perhaps or just a flying stone thrown up from a passing car.

The edge or corner of a window is the weakest point.

I think he means the side window. Regards Peter

oh, in that case it's easy. An invisible car jacker who thankfully failed in his task

Yep, passenger side glass. Don't see how a stone could have reached that position on that window easily as it was effectively masked by the car to its' nearside. Nowhere logical for an airgun to fire from unless it was a) bedroom window of very posh house on the left, or b) someone firing from the car next to her, and, if b) I would have thought someone else would have seen that!

Suicidal sparrow?
Perhaps an angry wasp mutated by global warming/airbound chemicals/nuclear waste (delete as applicable).

dunno my friend, sounds intriguing. Have you checked the interior of the car for any evidence of a foreign object.
Why did the window go? - Tim Allcott
Yes, and carefully. Given the way it shattered, and the small particle of glass that came into the car, I was convinced it must have been a pellet, but could find no sign of it.

A stray proton from the Cern experiment?
