Checking Congestion Charge is payable? - Glaikit Wee Scunner {P}
Planning to drive /ride from M25 (junction 11) to Surbiton and no further on Friday. Now when I put a Surbiton post code into the GLC website to check it implies I've to pay.
Surely I will be outside the pay zone?

you will be outside the zone in surbiton

Junction 10 (a3) will give better (faster) access to surbiton

Thanks for that advice AE. My big map of London does not go as far south as junction 10 that's why I chose 11!
Better dig another one out.

Have you tried using www.maps.google.co.uk - no need to buy a road map again!

For the congestion charge so OK in a car
( but Surbiton is in the Green zone charge area)

I agree with AE re fastest route.

On the A3 you will hit a 50 limit and then go under the Hook underpass.
Two option for the route to Surbiton.

Simplest route
1. stay on A3 through 50MPH Gatso and take the next exit at Tolworth
turn left A240 and that takes you towards Surbiton.

Shorter route avoiding queue to exit A3, traffic lights x2 shopping area.
2. Take it slow up the ramp of the underpass
Immediately at the top of the ramp switch to the new LH lane and take the first exit at the end of a small row of shops
At the end of the road ( lots of humps turn left for Surbiton)

For both the above options - when you get to the top of the hill turn left at the lights for the station/ town centre.

My usual advice.
Do check www.traffic-england.co.uk/TCC/
Select area (s) and tick Roadside message signs.
Of course listen to local radio or BBC with the TA on.

Consider the following route if traffic is bad on M25 after J13 ( Staines )

You are obviously not starting a J 11 M25
Alternative is M3 and take the first exit J1 A308 to Hampton Court
Beware 20MPH yes 20 MPH Gatso at Hampton.
Go right at Hampton Court Palace over the Thames.
A309 towards Sandown Park Race Course.
Then a roundabout and under a railway bridge to the famous Scilly Isles roundabout.
Sharp left A307 ( first Exit) towards Kingston.
Past Guy Salmon, Honda, Dagenham Ford, Cannons club and turn right at traffic lights.

( any more direct route from the A309 is narrow and full of humps) :-((

If you wish and you supply a more detailed final destination I can advise you on route and land marks etc.

I thought Maggie kicked the 'GLC' in to the bin long before websites had even been invented!

I think there's some confusion here between the Congestion Charge, which affects cars in the City/West End plus a Western Extension into Kensington& Chelsea and the Low Emissions Zone wich affects older diesel lorries, cars and vans over 1.205 tonnes in a much wider area within the M25.

Assuming GWS is appraoching Surbiton by ordinary car from the southern side of the M25 and not going "into town" I don't think he will be affected.

Indeed. Someone called to ask me about the low emission zone and I didn't even know what it was. Only applies to lorries anyway, and probably not even to them by the time the dust clears.

Congestion zone map
www.tfl.gov.uk/tfl/roadusers/congestioncharge/wher.../

Some LEZ zone info

www.bbc.co.uk/london/content/articles/2008/01/04/l...l

If you have a few weeks to read it
www.tfl.gov.uk/roadusers/lez/about/2027.aspx

As already stated :- By car via M25 & A3 or M3 you are nowhere near the congestion zone.

Most of Surbiton is in the LEZ so do not come to my area in an old truck :-)
