V70 T5R (AWD) - Brill {P}
In the C by C Breakdown, HJ says:

"Front tyre wear of the T5 and T5R can be severe."

...but what of the AWD version of the T5R, does this even out the wear, and spread the power more pleasingly?

Any general comments re. T5R (and AWD) ownership much appreciated.

Stu,

My experience of a Subaru AWD is that I got very even tyre wear
all round (nb manual with fixed 50/50 power split front to rear, this may not apply to auto with variable front/rear power split).
Despite very rough roads/dirt and many windy mountain roads and no tyre rotation I could not tell the difference between front and rear tyres when measuring the tread depth/wear pattern.

I found AWD made the car much better handling, almost impossible to impart a wheelspin even under icy conditions, no problems with over or understeer even when provoked.

Is the AWD drive for the T5 the same as used for the X-country?

However the Volvo AWD system is different to the Subaru one (also see comment of auto vs manual) and I note that Volvo recommend changing all the tyres together to avoid circumference differences and premature gearbox failure, but the general AWD handling comments should still apply.

regards

Should that be necessary? Won't the centre diff remove any problem?

Ian & Andy,

I currently drive a Quattro, and have heard of the 'all 4 tyres' advice.

What do they expect you to do if you get a puncture?

I've beed changing in pairs.

I need something bigger, hence the T5 thought, thing is though I need a barge, I like a bit of oooomph!

I have only heard that Volvo recommend changing all the tyres together to maintain similar tyre circumference. I believe that this was in the users manual. This certainly didnt apply to my Subaru which was ok to change tyres in pairs or singly in case of punctures. Perhaps it is the type of centre differential that matters....limited slip?

Dont know what Audi recommend for the Quattro, what does it say in the users manual?
