While it remains legal to use our cars for pleasure, some of us will continue to do that.
;-)
We "discovered" West Kirby today on the Wirral. Lovely clean beach and pleasant wee town. Free parking on the prom. Tide was way out and we were able to walk over the sands to the "Eye" islands. Could have continued on to Hilbre Island but decided to return to the town beach for our picnic and a spot of kite flying. The marine lake was staging a dinghy race and some impressive windsurfers. The Wirral country park a short distance away looked like it was worth a visit some time especially if we bring the bikes next time to explore the coastal trail.
Chidhood memories of walking barefoot for miles on wet clean sand seaching for shells and stuff were reawakened today and we can honestly say we have not felt so refreshed for quite a while.
Highly recommended for anyone within reach tomorrow.
Where have others been this weekend or are planning to go to tomorrow to celebrate the end of our great British um....."Summer" ?

Went to Lepe beach, just a few miles down the road, it rained so I was dragged to Southampton to do a spot of shopping, aarghh!
Tomorrow if its fine its a long walk in the New Forest hopefully ending up in a nice country pub for a pint or two and SWMBO can drive me home.
Please let it be sunny tomorrow.

I remember being admonished for calling Wirral 'The Wirral'.
I was told it is Wirral, or The Wirral peninsular.
I walked down the garden, there's no pedants there!
|
Thanks for the tip BT ! I shall continue to call it "The Wirral" being a rock 'n roll sort of guy as you can no doubt tell by my choice of day out.

Corblimey, have you tried the pub at Bank, just outside Lyndhurst - okay, I know you won't want to drive through Lyndhurst but you will know how to avoid that ;-) The pub is well worth the visit - both for food and location.
I am trying to have a driving free three days!

I am going for a day's go-karting at Tockwith near York. At my age this could be hoot or a pain! I might report back

At home all day - minor tasks that had mounted up, punctuated by helping some trespassing blackberry pickers who introduced themselves to my rather odd Springer.

>>rather odd Springer.
Then that one must be really weird.
I had one from puppy to dotage (that was one too many), and knew several more.
They make setters look sane!

intend to go nowhere.
Traffic on bank holidays around here is a nightmare
Might risk a run to town though

I live on 'The Wirral' - not far from West Kirby actually. I call it 'The' Wirral as do all of my friends and neighbours. Glad you enjoyed your day.

Thanks SF. Nice little spot. Could imagine living there actually. I was brought up by the sea and sometimes miss it badly.

Traffic on bank holidays around here is a nightmare
Well, interestingly enough, it is usually is painfully busy around here too. Not especially today though despite the reasonable weather in these parts. Occasionally overcast but 19c and mainly sunny. Whether it is that people are genuinely cutting back on using their cars or maybe it was just a case of "call my bluff" on the traffic front, but travelling today was easy enough.
Saw a convoy of motorbikes coming towards us on the M53 and we lost count at 30 odd. Also saw a brace of Harleys, one of which was towing a substantial trailer. Clearly a family outing we did have to wonder why they didn't just use a car but I suppose that was not the point.

I stayed at home...as I'm packing my suitcase ready for my trip to the good 'ol US of A on wednesday.

Have a good one MLC. Did you get your rental car finalised ?

I've decided I want a V8 of some sort (Charger hopefully) and intend to 'negotiate' when I get there.
Taking the brolly though. There's a hurricane that likes Florida so much it keeps coming back.

Harewood Steam and Classic Vehicles Rally - great day out once the heavy rainshower had passed.
Traction engines, tractors, wagons, static engines (inc a three tonner in the back of a truck), nearly 400 Harleys, classic cars, military vehicles.
Best sight of the day was a sign on the back of an Austin 7 special. A red triangle warning sign on back of vehicle with:
"Warning four wheel braking"!
For some reason I was attracted to two real 'sheds' of cars. A 1920s Alvis and another unknown 1920s vehicle. Both looked like they had been found in a barn, fitted with wheels and driven to the show for the day.
Show is on tomorrow too.

It would be The Oak - have had a couple of really good lunches there this year - although I can tell you nothing about the alcohol as my other half no longer drives :-( They do have Ringwood ales and several other local brews.
|
Ooo, Ringwood, thats a good start :-) definitely will 'accidentaly' put 'er indoors' driving shoes in the boot then.
Cheers Deepwith, am thinking tomorrow may turn into a decent day rain or not.
Long walk past the Bench, pop into Lyndhurst for a quick peep in the shops, suggest we try the food in a pub nearby a friend recommended, "oh look, they have Ringwood and some other local ales I havent tried before, what?, you havent got your driving shoes, I'm sure I saw them in the boot earlier"
Bank Holiday Monday is sounding better and better.

Stayed local. Doing 2000+ miles down to northern Italy and back in a couple of weeks, so sparing the driving at the moment! :-)
