Does anyone know the code for diagnostic machine to increase revs?
The problem i have is that the car revs drop to 450rpm then engine cuts out when i take my foot off the accelorator when driving.
This is becoming increasingly dangerous and now cuts out mid flow of traffic as well as when pulling out at junctions or at roundabouts. I've had a few near misses to being hit by other vehicles and now desparate to get this fixed.
I've taken my Zafira AUTO (W-Reg) to the vauxhaul garage many times to be tested on the diagnostic machine but no errors come up, so they say they can't fix it.
I've also written to vauxhall but no reply as yet. Can anyone help? Has anyone had similar probs?

I'm surprised the garage didn't clean out the idle speed control valve. That's the usual culprit.

thanks for that, i'll mention it when i take it in. is that something that might need to be replaced or just a clean? i don't vauxhall telling me it will cost a fortune for a new valve if a clean might do the job.
so far vauxhall just don't seem bothered and have the attitude "if there isnt an error showing on the diagnostic then there isn't a problem" which is rubbish, cos i know there is. thanks again.

That year was when they changed the 1.8 engine in the Zafira. The earlier 115hp X18XE1 had a throttle cable and an idle valve - which sticks - and there is a modification to the breather vent into the throttle and a software upgrade available.
The later 125hp Z18XE uses a fly-by-wire electronic throttle - which could probably do with a good clean and re-set.
Clearly, your dealer has only boys left. A lack of fault-codes does not absolve them from the responsibility of finding the problem or, at least, doing the mods - try a different dealer; hopefully one that has still got a competent diagnostics man.

IIRC on my TIS 2000 disks the Z18 engine code is only valid for Zafira A from 2001 onwards, but SWMBO's Zafira was built 2000 and is a Z18 - maybe Opel badged ones like hers were changed before Vauxhall badged ones???.
There is a field modification on the serivce disks as decribed by Screwloose, ( I've got a pdf of it somewhere if the OP wants a copy) which includes clearing out a hole in the throttle body with a drill and the SW upgrade, for the X18 engine.
SWMBO's Z18 had a very erratic idle ( although it never stalled, in fact it was more of a surge) which was 90% fixed by giving the throttle body a good clean out. This was done by the local mobile mechanic, doubtless a Vx dealer would want to sell you a new throttle body at upwards of 200 quid rather than half an hour's labour to clean the exisitng one out.

Many thanks everyone, thats really very helpful info. Best regards

The Cure to this problem . I had a Zafira 1.6 55 plate with the engine cutting out. Coil packs and ECU replacement does NOT cure this. The cure is to pull a plug out that goes into the engine then put it back in. This re sets the software problem and will allow the Zafira to travel for a further 70 miles. Although not a total cure it will allow the engine to re start and then do as I did Sell the Zafira.

Have the throttle body and butterfly cleaned thoroughly. And have it kept clean at each annual service.
