04 1.6 engine mounting bush disintegrated. - argybargy
I own a 2004 Vauxhall Meriva,Easytronic Enjoy.
Despite reading some negative comments about the model,so far not too bad.However..whilst looking underneath at something else, I discovered that the front engine mounting bush had totally disappeared. Not a shred of rubber left, nothing, and this after just 23000 miles.
Could anyone recommend a reasonably priced parts manufacturer where I can obtain a replacement?I dont think this is a main dealer only part.
Although I dont have a Haynes manual, the job itself looks pretty straightforward, although I would appreciate any advice on that also.
Cheers.

You could try www.autovaux.co.uk

but have you tried asking a main dealer what the price will be?

Nope,not yet--mainly because I anticipate a scary response.Might do it anyhow,just for a laugh.
It would be interesting to know if anyone else had experienced an engine mounting bush going at such a low mileage.

You might well be pleasantly surprised at the cost. Not everything from a Vauxhall main dealer is expensive. In fact a lot of their service items are as competitively priced as other car accessory shops.

Thank you,I'll give it a go.
Anything I should bear in mind about the job itself? It looks straightforward, but I'm no more advanced than the average DIY mechanic, and lacking any kind of manual to assist with how to proceed.

Further to all this,I just wanted to comment upon the fact that at my last MOT, which was around four weeks ago,the car passed with flying colours-and yet since then Ive discovered a (slightly) leaking rear shock, the aforementioned vanished engine mounting bush and a superficially corroded brake pipe, all on a four year old car with just 23000 miles on it.
Obviously I was delighted with the pass, but with hindsight and not being absolutely sure of the MOT failure criteria, surely an inspector should have picked up on at least two of the above?
Doesnt inspire confidence in the MOT system, nor in Vauxhall build quality.

None of those are failable items. Maybe an advisory - but...

right..I thought at the very least the leaking shock would result in a fail.
Surprised to learn that completely missing engine mounting bushes wont fail an MOT.

Further to the above,Ive had a local mobile mechanic source and fit the part for me at a cost of around seventy quid including fitting.
Being unfamiliar with these things,I was unaware that the part itself included the mounting bracket, believing that there was some way of removing the old rubber and fitting a new one in the old bracket.Clearly the rubber is pressed in on manufacture and cant be removed.
For anyone experiencing a similar problem with a Meriva, expect difficulty in obtaining the part unless you go straight to a main dealer.

Not much discretion allowed now; computerization has tied the tester's hands by an enormous amout.

Engine mounts were never testable unless they impinged on another area.
