There seems to be general disquiet in the BR about the unhelpfulness of VW dealers so it does seem fair to give another view on things.
I was packing my wife's August 2005 Golf for a trip to Scotland when I noticed that the boot seemed damp, actually it was soaking under the spare wheel cover. Back from holiday I contacted the supplying dealer, Isaac Agnew Belfast, if I am allowed to say that. No problem they replied, bring it in next week and would you like a courtesy car as we need two days to check and repair leaks.
Arrived at dealers last Monday and my wife explained that she had sent her licence off for renewal and did not have the new one. Again, no problem we can check for you if you have the number. Keys for a brand new Polo produced and off we go. Phone call Tuesday to say that leak was repaired but a new spare wheel cover was needed and would not be available till today. Keep the Polo till we call you. Phone call this afternoon that all was ready and please collect the car at your convenience.
Yes, we were delighted with the service and No, I have absolutely no connections with the company but my wife does buy a new Golf from them every 10 years (this is her third).

People only come on to forums to complain about something. VW dealers do get a bad name on this site and I am sure some of them deserve it. But its good to read about a positive experience at the VW dealer. They are not all bad.

Thanks for the comment bhoy. Interesting how little response there is to good news about VW service; perhaps it would have been different if I was complaining about the service or praising Skoda/Subaru and I speak as a Subaru owner.

It was good service.
I was intrigued to hear: >> Arrived at dealers last Monday and my wife explained that she had sent her licence off for renewal and did not have the new one. Again, no problem we can check for you if you have the number.>>
How do they do that?

I had a phone call from my local VW dealer telling me that my 7 year old Passat needed a recall.
I was suspicious of their intentions, but took her in this morning. I read the free papers and had a cup of free coffee while they did the jobs.
After an hour the receptionist told me they had fitted a clutch cover and done something to the plenum chamber. They also did an "express service visual check" which she passed 100% visually OK.
I was very pleased with the excellent service I received. Well done Parkway VW!

Optimist they seemed to be able to log on to the DVLNI system to check the validity of the licence. Should say that DVLNI is Driver and Vehicle Licencing Northern Ireland.

Glad to hear it alfalfa. Good helpful service - you'll probably be kicking the door down to get your next service from them or to buy a new car (again). It just surprsies me that it surprsies me - it's not rocket science is it - dealer does a proper job without any nonsense, you pay your bill. If garages in general (& franchisees in particular) simply did what they promsise on the tin we'd all roll over like puppy dogs & beg them to take our money.
