There were rumours that the new Jazz would be available with a diesel engine, is there any truth to this?

I've heard nothing to this effect.
I think it is very unlikely as the 1.4 engined Jazz achieves Diesel-like fuel economy from a petrol engine so the additional costs of a Diesel would not make sense.

When the new model was announced there were several reports of a possible diesel in the pipeline. Guess they decided not to bother.
Oh well, cross that one off the list then!

My old Passat used to get more mpg than our current Jazz, so its not true that the petrol engine in them is the equal of a diesel. 46 mpg (the average of ours) is quite ordinary for a small car.

Suppose it depends what you use it for - around town there probably wouldn't be much in it.
Mitsubishi's Colt 1.5D does mid 40's urban.
I just pray that the new Jazz has an intermittant rear wiper - the continuous one on Mrs BP's Jazz drives me nuts!
