Mobile Speed Camera Vans - Marking ? - cottontop
Hi all,

Do Mobile Speed Camera Vans require any markings or identification on them ?

I saw one (i think) south of Kidderminster on the A449 this afternoon but It was a plain white van. The ones in Staffordshire state it is a mobile speed camera van...

Any ideas ?

Thanks

Richard

no markings needed. most are 'loud' to increase awareness of their existance. North Wales police have been known to hide one in a horse box. Conway valley IIRC

How strange. I'm assuming it was a mobile speed van (hi-top variety). There didn't seem to be a rear window open with a camera pointing out. All i could see was a small camera at the top of the rear door of the hi-top through some tinted glass.

I drive a fair deal and have never seen an unmarked one before..

West Mercia have been using these Ford transit connect vans for ages, mostly unmarked and considerably smaller and less conspicuous than the high tops which were more common, probably cheaper and more profitable. A491 East of Stourbridge a favourite van spotting area.

Unmarked green transits in Oxfordshire too, and IIRC South Wales.

How many posts till we hear 'if you don't speed you needn't worry'.

The A449 is pretty notorious for cameras, which is why its sensible to stick to the 40/50/70 as applicable limit...

I avoid the A491 on an evening after coming off the M5 at J4 and go through Belbroughton & Blakedown. But they like the unmarked police car round there (blue/black Mondeo & Silver Vectra), and then there is the camera van on the A456 just inside Blakedown. Seen twice in the past two weeks!

Also seen the unmarked police car parked up on the A456 dual carriageway section.

I do support the use of cameras and cars in these locations as its the only way to slow people down enough to make it safer...

I know what you mean Gordonbennet. Thing is it was'nt a Ford Transit Connect, it was a Hi-top. I was well within my limit but had a good look when I went past as I was v curious....

Anyway The location (A449) isnt listed on their site as a location which makes me all the more curious !!
