Hello
Friends newly aquired Megane, when starting if engine is warm has erratic idle and stalling.
Once it gets going snd has done a few hundred yards all is back to normal, idle correct etc.
Any ideas, just so I can give him a clue before he starts taking bits off and ranting.
Cheers

Did he buy it private or trade? Can he take it back for a refund?
This could be a coolant temp sensor; but it could well have been sold because the electronic throttle body was starting to fail.

He got it trade, I have told him to take it back as it is under warranty, all be it a limited warranty from a small car sales place but he wanted to fiddle first, he is a bit funny like that.
Will try and badger him into taking it back.
I assume that if its a throttle body it will cost him a mint?

Small place or not; the "fit for it's purpose" and "merchantable condition" law still applies - not some dodgy warranty conditions.
Fiddle and they'll just blame him for everything - don't touch it.
Throttle bodies can easily be £1000 when fitted and adapted-in by the dealers.

Thanks Screwloose, will nab him ASAP and drag him back to the sales place.

Well after much hassle it has finally been diagnosed as Screwloose suggested, garage reckon around £450 to fix, does this sound cheap?
Seller is having none of it, next step is to try and get them to pay half of the bill.

If they're using a re-con TB and have the necessary kit to adapt it; then £450 is about right. They can be fun to get up and working - normal French-electrics hassle.

Thanks Screwloose will pass on the info.
