Can someone tell me the servicing intervals and rough servicing costs for a new Mazda 2 petrol? Thanks.

Instead of relying on people's guesses (informed or otherwise) may I suggest you call a Mazda dealer and ask? Better yet, call a couple of dealers and cross check the information. They will be able to give the exact costs, and you should ask if there's any other non-standard servicing work (ie cam belt change etc) that needs doing.
I always do that before I buy a car, and on our last new car purchase, I was put off one dealers (marginally the nearest) as I called them twice and their service department didn't answer the 'phone either time so I bought the car elsewhere.

And don't just ask about the first few services. My Mazda6 needs a very expensive 50k service I think. Cannot remember the price but it was on the wall of the service department. I think it's first service (due anytime at 12500) is over £200 and the 50k more than treble that!

Got a test drive Saturday so will be asking all these questions then. I was just doing some rough calculations for running costs before I went into battle to agree any deal. I have been put off one car already because the servicing costs were very high. I have no real choice over where I get it serviced as my nearest Mazda dealer is 20 miles away and the next nearest is 60 miles away

You can still 'phone another dealer and compare - if the other dealer is cheaper you might be able to use their pricing as a lever when booking service at your local dealer. You can always avoid telling then where you live!

Our 2007 Mazda 2 (old shape) has 12,500/one year servicing intervals. It is worth shopping around Mazda dealers for servicing costs. For our car's first service (its done 4,400 miles currently) four Mazda dealerships in a 20 mile radius quoted £ 199 (dealer we bought car from). £ 188 (another branch of same dealer), £150 and £ 125.
Beware parts availability though - we've just had to wait 9 weeks for an HT Lead, and we only got that at nine weeks because I insisted Mazda UK fit a Ford part (our car was based on the Ford Fusion and built by Ford).
Parts supply really seems an issue with Mazda's - for my previous 2003 323 I had to wait four weeks for Mazda to supply a new front pipe for the exhaust.
The cars are fine til the dealers need to order parts for them !!

I would be perfectly happy with a first service at less than £200. I had been quoted around £400 for a competing model.

Good grief - which car was that?
