06 1.6 Common Rail Sensor - mchampson
I have a 06 plate 307 1.6HDi 90.
Can someone tell me where the CR sensor is located and how I get to it.

{amendment to header to clarify what CR stands for}

What are you calling a CR sensor and why do you want to find it?

The sensor on the common rail so that I can fit a plug in diesel tuning device.

Don't be so silly.

Explain why.

No; because I don't have an hour to waste explaining how the system works, how sophisticated it is and why messing with the rail pressure is a very bad idea.

Which CR tuning box are you considering fitting and why ?
Have you informed your insurance company about fitting this device ?

I only asked a simple question and no one has answered it yet.

I think its in part for your own good. I did some reading lately about tuning boxes vs a proper remap.

In summary, people with the Fiat/Alfa JTD diesel engines who used just a tuning box found they faced a nasty bill in 3-6months as the fuel rail pressure was set much too high by the tuning box, which caused the high pressure fuel rail to crack.

With a proper remap, they dont just increase the fuel pressure, but many other aspects too such as the turbo boost and the amount of fuel injected under part load etc. Basically the map is much more geared around your engine's condition, rather than just ramping up the pressure on the rail in a generic way.

There are a lot of tuning boxes around and some don't work well on engines such as the 1.6 HDi 90. Some devices have been programmed with too high power/torque outputs that work outside the manufacturers tolerances and they will at some stage cause something to break. Other tuning boxes can be set-up and programmed specifically to offer different levels of power & torque throughout the rev range in accordance with your driving requirements without overloading the engine, and a diesel tuning specialist is better placed to advise than simply having a go yourself, for hence the questions.

Also it is known that people are fitting these devices and having remaps without notifying their insurance company to include the tuning box/remap, which is treated as a modification. Such practice is illegal and the individual concerned will be prosecuted when caught and in the event of a vehicle incident they will be personally liable for any damages caused to persons and vehicles involved, hence the question.

In addition your car is an 06 reg. which means it's still under the manufacturers warantee and if you fit a tuning box or have a remap your warantee will be null and void, hence the concern.

Would you answer our questions please ?

The tuning box I was thinking off was the one supplied by Car Performance Parts.
I have approached my insurers for a quote, which was quite reasonable.

Would you provide the web link for the product please ?
I couldn't locate any diesel tuning devices for an HDi.

Ebay.

Personally I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole. There is no definition about the warantee - alarms bells ringing ! The device sounds like it's a general CR "fits all" type which begs the question has it been tried and tested and certified to work for your particular car ?

The price they are asking for the device means it's right at the bottom end of the market. The quality products are tested and certified for any given engine/vehicle and come with a good warantee, support service and have multiple configurable parameter options.

Fitting any tuning device to the CR sensor for your model of car is no easy job as other components have to be removed for access.
