ROFL !!

Seems incredible to me, bearing in mind the delays often mentioned in VW deliveries, that there would be anything like 30,000 cars there.

What I read says that the cars were at Emden awaiting shipping as opposed to being several days production ouside a factory. I guess they were waiting for shipping world wide from the specialist shipping port. Bearing in mind how long it would take a body shop to sort out one car the time/cost/manpower of dealing with 30,000 dimpled cars is going to be staggering. Then, when they are delivered, the many of the diesels will have pump failures and be off the road again!

Hail damage to 70,000 VWs @factory - Falkirk Bairn

Up to 30,000 brand new Volkswagen cars have been damaged by a storm of hail stones reported to be the size of ping-pong balls.

The cars were parked outside the Volkswagen plant at Emden on Germany's North Sea coast.

A spokesman for the carmaker said that each of the 30,000 vehicles would have to be examined for damage so they could be repaired before being sold.

The spokesman stressed that Volkswagen is insured against hailstorm damage.

There has been speculation that the damage could cost as much as 100m euros ($157m; £79m), but Volkswagen stressed that there could not yet be any cost figures because they had not yet examined all the cars.

The storm happened on Sunday, 22 June.


Buying a new VW in the near future requires extra vigilance - perhaps
