2000 2.0 HDI "tappety" sounds - adjustable ? - paulc924
My engine has started to sound a bit "tappety" over the last coupe of weeks. Am i right to presume the adjustment is made by shims? If so how easy is it to do please? I imagine I will have to measure the gaps and replace where necessary. Is this the way? Regards,

They're hydraulic. Tappety sounds from an HDi [around 2000 revs?] is usually a sign that you have injector problems.

Thank's for that. I have noticed it at tickover from inside the car with the window down. Thinking back, it started when I had a new back box fitted. I will look underneath. Thanks again and best regards.

Could be failure of a hydraulic tappet if its done a high mileage. They will usually go quiet when revved and then start up again at lower revs.
