Anyone know if there's a new Polo on the way? - PoloGirl
I have googled but clearly not very well!

The new Golf comes out in September. Is it going to be followed soon after by a new Polo?

I believe so... The Seat Ibiza is being replaced soon I think, and I'm sure I read that it's the first VAG car on that platform. I'd guess the Polo will follow at some point next year?

A Polo with the 1.4 TSI 170 bhp engine would perhaps be capable of near-diesel economy if driven gently, and go like a bomb if not. Could be a great car if the steering and handling are up to Golf V standards.

"Ibizagirl" has a nice ring to it!

Yes, every time I mention getting a new car we have to run through Skodagirl, Fiestagirl etc, eventually ending up at Escortgirl. So there we go...all done. ;)

My next Polo related question (I thought it better to keep them all in one thread) is:

Would a 1.9 PoloGT use more or less diesel than my bog standard 1.9 tdi Golf?

That would be a right hooker I suppose.

Don't give up, there's life in the old joke yet.

1.9 Polo GT isn't listed in What Car - is this a hypothetical new model? If so, its economy would presumably depend on the engine's bhp. The present Polo 1.9 has 100 bhp, a little less than a 1.9 Golf which I think has 105, so with a lighter body it should use a little less derv. But would it be different to drive from the Golf - maybe not much.

More or less diesel of a new 2009 Polo vs a Mk V Golf might depend on how soon you can get out of the current lease on the Golf without penalty.

... and how much will a new Polo be per month (or the new Golf) on a company type scheme. I got a bargain with the previous Mazda6 just before it was replaced. With my allowance going up it costs me £40pm than my allowance.

Pologirl, it's worth looking at the fuel figures for the Golf GT verses the Gold Tdi in all its variants. Usually anything with GT in its title means is tuned up to go faster which usually means it uses more fuel, hence its likely a Polo GT would use more fuel than a basic Tdi.

It's likely the new Polo will have a new small hitech diesel engine that will be very economical to replace the ageing 1.9 units so it's worth looking at them if fuel consumption is a priority.

There used to be a Polo with a supercharged or turbo 2-litre flat 4 instead of the back seat. I can't remember whether it was air-cooled. Quite fancied one of those but hated all the others I've driven or been in.

However they seem to be getting better as they get bigger. Not really what one would want, but you can't have everything.

Just a thought: perhaps leave the 'girl' bit out of the (next) pseudonym - probelm solved!

>>Would a 1.9 PoloGT use more or less diesel than my bog standard 1.9 tdi Golf?

But why consider buying a 'GT' at all when the primary concern is fuel economy? I'd imagine little nominal difference & even less real-world difference. Factor in change cost (it'll still get you - even with a lease/whatever) & any marginal difference might buy a double latte at best. If you really want a (new) new Polo - buy the new Fabia on the latest VAG platform in 'Greenline' guise, that might make a real difference in fuelling costs (..and call yourself FabiaDriver...)

I can't see the new Golf on that link, but I don't need to.

It will be just like the last 3, only slightly larger.

A bit bland. After the Scirocco I was hoping that VW designs were going to have a bit more "sparkle".
