Pros and cons of 2.0 petrol and 2.0 TDCi - MikeTorque
Does anyone have any feedback they can privide on the pros and cons of a Ford Focus III 5 door hatchback for the specs below ?

Ford Focus III : 2.0 TDCi 136 ps Style, Zetec & Titanium
Ford Focus III : 2.0 petrol 145 ps Style, Zetec & Titanium

Also what differences have you notice with the Focus II compared with the Focus III ?
Pros and cons of 2.0 petrol and 2.0 TDCi - Jase
3 diesels x 3 petrols = 9 different comparisons
plus
3 different comparisons for the petrols against each other
plus
3 different comparisons for the diesels against each other
=15 possible comparisons.
No idea how you evaluate that!

Therefore I would say get the 2.0TDCI Titanium if you can afford it as most toys to play with and it will be in warranty for 3 yrs so no need to fret over expensive bills.

So there.

(ps We have that engine in our CMax and it's great. Not too rough and pulls like a train)
Pros and cons of 2.0 petrol and 2.0 TDCi - DP
For petrol - vs - diesel, take the manufacturers combined MPG figures, knock off 10%, and work this out against the cost of both fuels over your annual mileage. Bear in mind that the diesel will retain a little more of its value on the used market. Accepted break even point on a diesel seems to be the 18-20k mark for guidance. Any more and diesel makes a case for itself, any less and its less easy to justify. Bear in mind the gap between standard unleaded petrol and standard diesel has increased from 2-3p per litre this time last year, to 12-13p per litre today. Or from a small change difference per tankful, to six or seven quid (or more). Will this continue? Who knows.

Also drive both. Modern diesels are a joy to drive with bags of punch at sensible engine revs, and the clatter is very well suppressed. The Peugeot/Ford 2.0 HDI/TDCi is also a corking example. A petrol engine will always be freer revving and more enthusiastic when worked hard, but size for size, won't pull as well at low-medium revs. Which is where most family cars tend to spend most of their time.

In short, it depends on your annual mileage, and driving style. Drive both and do some sums.

Cheers

I'd second test driving an example of both and then decide. The trim comparison should be the same regardless of petrol or diesel - you need to decide how much you can afford vs. how many toys you really need.

Thanks for the feedback so far.

Has anyone driven/experienced the Focus III 2.0 petrol/TDCi and if so what are your thoughts in general ?
