Mrs gsb has decided she would like a mini 1. On HJ's review it says new gearbox fitted after July 04. What is easiest way to check build date.

Apologies if you've tried this, but it may be as simple as looking under the bonnet. My previous BMW had sticker on the OS suspension turret that clearly showed the build date as month and year. As the MINI is a BMW........

You can always try looking at the labels sewn on to the seat belts. There is usually a date there or sometimes there is a manufacture date embossed underneath the ashtray.
Perhaps calling BMW customer service quoting the VIN (chassis) number might help.
