04 1.9 leaking body shell - wildgoose
Any ideas why the off side rear foot well close to the middle of the vehicle should end up with a puddle! I ve extracted over 1 L of clean water and relocated the relevant grommet, but doubt this is a fix

If this is one of the last of the old model then the likelly culprit is the seal between the pollen filter and the bulkhead, you also need to ensure the scuttle drains are clear from debris too

Assumming this is a RHS so the O/S is the drivers side rear footwell then I would suspect the ECU and elecronics casing is either leaking or the seal has failed between the casing and the bulkhead. The water runs down the back under the front carpets and runs to the lowest point in the rear footwell. Regards Peter

If the car is still under warranty, get VW to fix it.
The consequences of this water sloshing around the control modules are very expensive.
I had experience myself. Politely mention that if water is there then there was a problem with the servicing of the pollen filter being carried out incorrectly.

Happened on my 2002 Passat. Only found out when the alarm kept going off for no reason. Rain was running down the windscreen into the bulkhead but collecting and not running away. If it reaches a level that is at the top of the pollen filter it runs into the car. Hopefully iy hasn't damaged any electrical units as it can be very costly.

I would gently hose a bit of water into the bulkhead and see if it runs away quickly. You can remove the plastic battery cover to make it more accessible. If it doesn't run off under the car, you will have to clean out the drain holes or better still take out the rubber grommets (I think) so that the drain holes are wider. You might be lucky....

If you're getting those effects then it is almost certain that your 'comfort module' is under water. Its on the floor of the passenger footwell. To the side.

I would be taking up the carpet and soundproofing in the passenger footwell and getting it dried out. You may get away with the comfort ecu drying and then behaving itself - you may not.

Follow the links already given to check the pollen filter and the drain holes in the engine compartment.

new comfort ecu is about £250 I think. Make sure you get the right one. There are lots of variants (I presume that they cover all the different options)
