9pm ITV channel 4 for the days highlights.
Presented by an extremely er... prosperous... looking Mike Brewer and obligatory unknown female.
Good stuff last night.

|
Excellent - looks like the weather has treated them well this year.
|
Shudder, with all due respect (which means plenty).
That stuff always seemed terrifying to me even when cars didn't have safety belts let alone safety cages, but didn't seem frightening at all however fast driven. I become immediately fascinated when my eye falls on some big-bike competition, even between stone walls, but it gives me a sort of deep-down horrors.
Takes all sorts. I know someone who is a scientist, a proper academic one, who cycles in London not on pavements as well as being a chainsaw freak when he sees a tree, but who doesn't trust cars and drives appallingly, mimsing and so on, justifying it by saying he doesn't approve of cars anyway...
|
It gives me the creeps. At the same time it makes me want a big bike again... But given that I get cold even with the heater on these days, maybe not....

More like preposterous Mike Brewer! What was all that waste of time about pretending to be an entrant and getting a bike scrutineered? What is the strange accent? Sunningk isn't even a word here in Rutland!
|
It does raise strange emotions.
The circuit with the onboard camera made me:
Desperately want to do it again (although my average speed was nowhere near 130).
Sad in the knowledge that I would never do it again.
Happy in the knowledge that I will not die this way as so many do each year.
But still we now know definitively who ate all the pies. MIKE!

I'm not really a bike fan, but watched all 17(?) minutes of that fastest-ever onboard camera lap on the preview programme yesterday. It was just incredible.
|
|
Loads and loads of stuff on YouTube.
|
130+ mph laps simply defy understanding, it's like when you get in-car footage from the World Rally Championship ... these guys really are something extra.
Although what's equally incredible is the first 90mph lap was done over 70 years ago, on gravelled, bumpy roads, on a bike giving maybe 40bhp at best!
|
Don't forget that the late Tony Pond did a 100mph average lap in a Rover 800 Vitesse in 1990...:-)
It still stands as the record today - awesome achievement.
|
|
If you do a forum search on Pond's lap, you'll find a web link to it.
|
This is the Duke video of the lap:

This is the 160mph TT crash from last year involving "Milky" Quayle that's been featured on ITV4's TT 2008 programming over the weekend:

As ever Sir you 'ave it right. I have never known that to 'appen before.
Many thanks.

37+ miles and a 1500 foot climb, on public roads with white lines etc AND at a lap speed of 129 mph beggars belief. These racers are on the borderline between bravery and madness. They don't leave the field of play with groin strains and pulled hamstrings either! Known to ride with broken limbs set at the correct angle for riding and press on! Really tough!

|
And, crucially, despite everything else, they are true Sportsmen. The last of a breed.
|
Centenary this year. Just wait for the blinkin' do gooders to have a go Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Love Ya all. It's just like being there.
Very best reg's...........MD

The race footage and commentary on the race was excellent.
Mike Brewer? and the woman (can't remember her name) were pointless, pathetic, unnecessary and superfluous.
