Make sure the car runs for at least a second or so on the overrun before you declutch for the junction or lights. That may prevent the stalling (as it did in my Escort when it had a similar fault). It's a technique you soon get used to.

The problem was caused in my car by a grotty idle control valve, and cleaning that up cured the fault, or very largely so. It may be something similar with yours. Of course it's well worth making sure plugs and air filter are in decent condition too.

And more than likely with the Calibra as well. It's quite a common problem with Vauxhalls of this era.

Here's a guide on 'how2' clean it - providing its the Ecotec engine?

very good explanation however this does not get over the real problem the iac gets contaminated with oil mist due to the small bore pipe blocking up this is from the rocker cover to the throttle body (its this bit that gets blocked) you need to clean this bit also Do Not Drill Out And Make It Bigger poke the crude out, i use a bit of welding rod ground down to a fine point and lots of carb cleaner/wd40 etc, there is also a software up date for the ecu/iac but dealer only job

Good point topbloke. I always forget that one. I'm sure I had a link to a how2 on that as well somewhere.
